Memo to French Connection: reducing the price by ONE CENT does not make it a sale. And even worse, it certainly doesn't justify making an item "FINAL SALE".
Well, that's just silly! Not such a bargain deal, is it?
(That reminds me of something my dad and I talked about a couple years ago: psychological pricing, or why we're much more likely to buy something that costs $19.99 than $20 even: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-i.....ricing.htm )
Ha! That's ridiculous. I wonder if it's just a way to justify making things final sale. Or, I have seen stores do this (although it's usually more than a 1 cent discount) so that the items qualify for the extra % of sale promotions.
Hahaha...I'd definitely call to see if they'd do a price adjustment, just on the principal alone. If they felt harrassed over a penny...welll, serves 'em right
Kari, you're right that psychological pricing is a well-known tactic, but this goes beyond that--slashing the price by a cent so that you can make it a final sale item! And it's true for a good percentage of their sale items, so it's not a one-off mistake. There are plenty of tops, dresses, and jackets priced like this.
I think I may be psychologically off as the prices ending in 99 always look pricier to me. A item that is $20 looks cheaper than one that's $19.99. Maybe it's all those nines.
