Hi all
I started reworking dresses into skirts and in one case a blouse to get some use out of parts I liked and avoiding the parts I didn't. Now I am out of dresses to rework, so I have moved onto shirts. I have 4 white shirts. And yesterday I bought my first seriously nice shirt. One of the things I liked the most about it was that it caressed my waist. I realized this is what was missing on my other white shirts (and a silver one also). So today I took an hour or so and darted all of them. Except for little mishap where I darted the wrong side of the shirt, all of them came out so much better. I even wore one today that has been a closet orphan since I bought it last year.
I am very happy but haven't posted any pictures. You can see the one white shirt in my WIW post for the movies. Just think, until 2 months ago I didn't even know how to use my sewing machine, and now I feel I have 5 new shirts from use of some time.
The other pathetic discovery for me today was hem tape. My mother has provided my sewing machine and lots of supplies that just gathered dust. Today I tried this funny looking tape suspecting it was hem tape, and lo and behold, after a little ironing I now have hemmed some slacks that had lost their hem, a blouse that was formerly a dress, and another dress which needed a little extra help. They look so lovely and I like the band the hem tape makes. I feel such a dunce going for years with these types of problems and never trying this before. (and also all this stuff was in the house!)
Angie is so right, a little tailoring seems to be making my wardrobe more fab. I must recommend tailoring in the highest. No need to do it yourself, just take that step as an investment in making the things you buy, fit you best.
A happy little clam, Jayne
