yeah, I think Charles was a bit off in this one, maybe a little too ironic.
Seattle had plenty of style and was well known worldwide in the 90s! I remember traveling Europe then & people were so excited to hear about Seattle
It has always been a bit mix of fashion---from grunge, born here out of practicality. In a rainy, woodsy environment flannel and boots and all was practical before it was trendy.
But even in the 1980s, the city had a large alt culture: leather and black clad "new wavers". a lively rockabilly scene. Lots of artists and crafters.....Birkenstocks and casual west coast wear.....All those prepsters helped Nordstroms with their sales of polos and penny loafers and khakis....
But there also has always been a bit of a "do your own thing" "I dont give a f*&#@." Wear what you want. wear what feels comfortable. Seattle is a much younger city than those on the east coast & we never really had as much of the "formal" dress code. Of course people do wear suits and labels and all, but I feel there is less
