Searching for waterproof, lightweight, hooded trench...

I've gotten caught in a few horrible downpours lately without an umbrella and have come to the conclusion that my blue trench, while water resistant and very quick drying, is useless in a true downpour. Plus it has no hood so my head (and specs) get wet. So I'm in the market for a lightweight, hooded, waterproof trench. Ideally, it would be packable too - my current blue one rolls up small and can be stuffed into my bag. Nothing too warm as I'm looking for something for spring/summer/fall rainstorms. I'm not completely wedded to the idea of a trench, but it definitely needs to cover my butt since I don't want it getting wet!

I'd prefer black or a dark jewel tone.

I keep coming up with the gear vs. fashion problem. To me, a lot of the truly waterproof things (as opposed to "water-resistant" which in my experience usually means OK for light rain but not for massive downpours) look rather gearish. I like the Rainforest coats - I think it might be a good compromise between form and function. (Although I am not sold on the zip closures... somehow zips look very gearish to me).

I hear you on the waterproof thing, Diana (I believe some of the ones I linked to are waterproof though). I usually also prefer the look of a trench coat over a zip style, but do like some dressier raincoats with zip closure.

I have this one, the Merrel Miette. It might be slightly heavier than you are looking for, might want to check the weight. it keeps the water off.
The zipper and button option on the front is great! and the pockets have zips to keep things in.

I like my North Face trench for the Spring days when there is a real downpour. I hate using an umbrella. The hood is perfect to use running in and out, here and there. The Burberry does look divine but I wonder about the weight of it. My North Face is virtually weightless and makes a good travel coat. It's washable too.
