searching for ankle boots--added more ?s in thread

I'm looking for cowboy-inspired ankle boots similar to Angie's lime green ones to wear with boot cut jeans. I don't have much hope that I'll find that awesome green color, though that would be fantastic. I've found a couple I kinda like:

Hmmm not sure why they aren't working... they are cute little western style boots, they come in real suede and leather in a few colors.

I know Frye has a lot of fans here and I am probably going to get skewered for saying this, I am just not impressed with mine. I got them in spring on super sale from 6pm. Every time I wear them I feel like I am going to slip and fall and die. I put non-slips on the bottom, but even if 1 mm of the actual boot bottom touches the ground, you are skidding away.

I really like the Frye Carson but they don't have my size at 6pm.com. Zappos has one that might work.

Can someone assure me that gray ones would be really versatile within a MOTG wardrobe? I need winter shoes/boots for the Pacific Northwest and these sound fun. But I've never worn anything close to cowboy boots before. [blush] And I only have one other pair of ankle boots that are dark brown. Would it be wise to get something less potentially costume-y? Like maybe something like this:

FYI....Carson shorties run small. I ordered an 8 (my normal size is 8 1/2) and it's still a little big. So, maybe you'd want to try a half-size or even a full size smaller....

I really need opinions about the Nine West black boots. They look like they might work well under boot cuts and be an edgy options with a skirt and black tights. Am I nuts? I really like the laces and the relatively low heel. And the price is good. My feet are a 7.5 for what that's worth.

The aerosoles come in red in the store, I didn't see them online but maybe they are available from another source. Also, steve madden had distressed cognac leather and not very distressed gray in the store.

The Nine West boots are really cute - very different from the cowboy/ankle boots though. They have more of a military/vintage feel. I think they would be adorable with skirts - I don't love this style under jeans (the style of them is lost, vs. a cowboy boot where you can still see a cool toe and silhouette), but over leggings/skinnies they would be fab. And yes, with the side-zip they are good for MOTG!

ETA: I love the Dingos! Are you trying to toughen up your style and add some edge/contrast? If so I'd go with the moto/engineer look.

Una, you are killing me with those green boots! I love those! But that's awfully steep. Sigh.

Am I toughening up my style... hmm... I don't know, but I like those boots. LOL Which ever I buy really need to work with boot cuts, at least part of the time. I can only swing one pair of short boots this fall.

I really like both the Nine West and the Dingos. Which is a moto/engineer look?

Don't throw anything at me but I get kind of a granny vibe off the lace up Nine West. I like the Carson the best, followed by the Lucky. About Frye sizing--I think the pointier the toe, the more likely you'll have to size up if you have an average width foot. I tried the Frye Billy and they were way tighter than my Carson or Rory. I found my Carson true to size.

The Dingos are a moto/engineer look. The NW are more vintage. Along those lines, I prefer these for the clunkier heel - they're granny with an edge!

Ok, thanks, Una. I do like the Dingos. They might be the best compromise. The price is decent. And I like the heel height.

I looked for Miz Mooz and they have neat boots.

The green ones are only available in size 5.

I have to put in a good word for the second pair from Target that Rita linked. They are awesome for the price point, and are leather. If the link doesn't work for you, search for "Kaiala" on Target's site. I have them in brown, sized down 1/2, (as seen in outfits here) and they are probably the most comfortable shoe I own; I took them to San Francisco with me and walked all up and down the city for 2 full days in them, as well as every evening for a week on that trip

If you can try them, do. The brown is a bit distressed, so I rummaged through the boxes to find a pair that had the tones I wanted They do have a cushioned footbed, and they feel very comfy for my really high arches. Hopefully the quality is still as good as when I purchased at the start of the year!

I ordered both the blue suede and the brown suede cowboy ankle boots from Target when the price dropped to about twelve dollars (plus shipping).
The blue is said to run a bit larger than the brown and I think it does.
I sized down on the blue and ended up putting a gel insole in. Anyway, they are both very comfortable and I get endless compliments on the blue ones. The brown ones are, y'know, brown.

I realized that the Target boots are too much like my Dansko boots to make even the $25 price tag worth it. (on the left in the photo)

Now to figure out gray vs. black ankle boots. I would LOVE to do both if I can somehow pull it off. I also need knee high cognac boots for skirts.
