seamstresses - adding leather to jeans?

I wonder how viable it is to add leather knees to existing skinny jeans? I love my J Brand black skinnies and had the bright idea that I could add leather to them instead of hunt down new leather panel skinny jeans. Crazy? Not doable? Who would be best to do the job? Are there leather specialists in tailoring?

As long as the chosen leather is not too thick and stiff, it's perfectly do-able. Some tailors can turn their hand to this sort of job and there are also people who specifically work on leather too.

I think this might be easier than finding another pair of jeans with leather that fit well lol. I will keep it in mind for my Tahoe seamstress. And keep an eye out for some salvageable leather in the thrift shop.

Sometimes makers of leather goods sell off-cuts here. So they may be another source for soft, good quality leather

I would second the idea of thrifted leather. I think you live in Florida, as do I, and I see quite a bit of it in thrift store. Where I live, the opportunity to wear a leather jacket occurs about a week a year, so a lot of it seems to get donated by recent transplants from the north.

This company used to have a store in the late 70's early 80's here and had good quality leather. I think you can order samples.

I have such a hard time down here passing on all the leather and suede and cashmere at the thrift, oh and boots! I hold on to them thinking.. "maybe when we visit family in Virginia" Oh, and as Deb said, there is a Tandy leather place up near Orlando. My boyfriend bought some supplies there via the internet (heavy, stiff tooling leather). They do show skins in their catalog, but we thought they were a little pricey.

Before you do that, keep in mind it may change the laundering requirements of your garment! My dry-cleaner recently shooed away my Nicole Miller dress that has leather inserts, and told me to wear it at least one more time. Apparently a few strips of leather = exponential price hike for cleaning.

That being said, I absolutely adore your idea!
