Scrunched socks with booties...is this working?

I love my Report Marks booties, but many have worried about the "flower pot" look of thin ankles stuck in the wide opening of these booties!

So, I'm trying some scrunched socks with my booties today....is it working?

I think it looks cute! It looks like those Dr. Scholl's booties with the knitted cuff.

I'm not sure. It seems a bit casual compared to the outfit. Maybe it would work better with a super casual skirt, like denim or corduroy, and a chunky oversized sweater.

I am not liking the effect, I think the flower pot effect is fab. Actually, I have seen lots of gaping on boots and booties at NYFW street shots. I like the look, it's gamine. I vote sans socks.

I like it, although I do agree with missvee that it skews casual. I think it looks fine with the skirt, I would just keep the top or scarf on the casual, easy side. A denim jacket with this would be perfect.

Another vote sans socks.

The flower pot effect is a very acceptable fashion forward look, actually. It looks good on you Nancylee.

Personally, I prefer a more streamlined shoe/bootie shape for own style and body type because I just don't have the real estate to wear oversized shoes. I don't even have the mop of hair to balance out chunkier shoes. I barely have any hair.

Scrunched socks remind me way too much of early 90's looks so I can't get past that association. I share your 'flower pot' troubles with my scrawny lower legs so I can commiserate there!

Thanks everyone! I'm surprised there wasn't more love for the scrunched sock look, but I do feel emboldened now to wear my Report Marks sans socks and flaunt the gap.

Interesting points about the socks "casual-izing" the look overall. I can see that now.

Angie, thanks for pointing out the reason you've been focused on streamlined booties for yourself. It helps to know that it's a storage problem rather than your dislike of the wider opening booties.

I had seen a couple of picture on the Nordstrom website, and wondered how people would feel about booties worn with socks.

I think for me I prefer booties with tights, but I was intrigued by the look.

Thanks, Parsley! I've seen looks like this, too, and that's part of the reason I tried my socks today. I actually think these are cute outfits...and I like the scrunched socks.

True confession: I actually wore the socks out of the house today and only after I got home did I find all the thumbs down votes from YLF! The funny thing is many people at work--plus my hair stylist--thought it was a cute look.

It's all good. If this look doesn't appeal to everyone that doesn't bother me. It felt kind of fun to try something different, and I still feel it's an option for a casual look.

What I learned most from this experiment (and the input from YLFers) is that I can proudly wear my booties w/o socks even if there is a gap.

Im on the fence. I don't dislike the look, but I really like the look of those boots without socks. I find the "flower pot" effect very attractive.
