Scarf storage in closet?

Anyone have a really good way to keep scarfs in view in your closet?
I don't have space on the hang bar to put them on hanger there.

Any pictures would be so helpful - I half part of my scarf stash on a wooden hanger rack in closet but it's too full and I have to rotate out of a hat box periodically.

I'm a little confused about your needs. You're asking how to keep scarves in view in your closet, but don't have room on the hang bar?

Is this what you don't have room for? I use a butterfly hanger from Bed Bath and Beyond and like it. See below.

Do you have room to put up hooks? I use the 3M ones in my closet for storing purses, but they could easily hold scarves as well. Here's a site that shows them being used for aprons, but I think it gives a good idea of what they could do for scarves.

I have a box that is about 14" square and 4" deep. I roll the scarves and stand them in the box. I can fit over a dozen thicker large scarves and can see them all this way. I put the box on a shelf that wasn't used.

I actually use a revolving shoe rack that sits on the floor of my closet. I fold up the scarf and tuck it in on of the "shoe holder thingys" (for lack of a better name) and it holds quite a few. Here's a pic from Bed Bath and Beyond and a couple of "action" shots

The second action shot is a little closer up so you can see a little more detail. They are a little messier than I like but I have two grown daughters who think my stuff is theirs too! LOL The whole thing revolves so I can spin each level around and see what's in the back quickly too.

I don't have any hanging space at the moment, ie, no closet. But back when I did, I found this Ikea scarf organizer invaluable: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/cata...../70108912/

Basically, I roll up each scarf or fold it quite small and tuck it in. It holds 28, but with smaller or thinner scarves, you can stuff 2-3 into each ring. When you remove one, if it loosens the others in the same cubby, you can just drape those through the ring until order is restored!

A friend of mine had a rather more innovative solution for smaller scarves. She had a dozen large test tubes in a wooden holder on her dressing table. She'd just stuff part of the scarf in with the back of a make-up brush and let the rest stay popped out like a spray of flowers. If vertical space is at a premium, could something like that work for you?

I roll them up and use a box like Dianthus does. I don't have many scarves, though. You could also use an over the door type hanging rack like I do for belts, I suppose.

I use a big over the door hook thing like this:

(only works if you have a real door, not a sliding one, on your closet though). I recommend getting something like the one in the link with two rows of hooks, which doubles the hanging space. It's good for belts too.

Oh yes - that Ikea hanger is nice!

I don't have room to add hangers to the hang bar in the closet - I do have some wall space available (that's where they are now but it has 8 hooks and is overloaded) so need more hooks or something like the ikea thing.

Tried folding and have half my stash in a big hat box. I guess I am more prone to hang nicely than fold - the box used to be a big mess when I looked through it daily.

An ikea trip may be in order!

I also have the Ikea Kompliment hanger and it works really well. If you don't have room on your hang bar, maybe you could hang it on the wall or off of the door?!?
Or you may need a good folding-in-a box-on-a-shelf system...

I have hooks on an inexpensive hatrack-type thing. I keep my belts on it, too.

I hang my soft scarves on a men's tie hanger and it hangs from a hook on the back of my bedroom door. My thick winter (outerwear) scarves are rolled and kept on a boson a low shelf in my closet.

Christieanne, you might find rolling up gently into a 'scarf snail' (like a cinnamon bun!) easier to do and maintain than a fold. That way they sort of remain all visible and accessible and neat (again, think trayful of cinnamon buns tucked together, keeping each other in place; removing one doesn't usually upset the others --- they sort of expand to fit). That's my current drawer format.

I use a wicker basket on the shelf and just dig through it to find what I want. It's actually surprisingly efficient. I am not allowed to buy any more scarves though because the basket is now full

Good ideas - and I love hearing storage ideas

I may be in need of a good scarf purge and then will check out Ikea. The cinnamon bun thing seems like a good concept as well.

I use an over-the-door towel rail on the back of my closet door, and loop them over the bars. You can pull the rack outward and jiggle it around a bit so that the scarves hang down behind it.

Christieanne...I've posted this pic before, but I hung a swing-arm magazine rack on the wall inside my closet to hang my scarves. It works great!

(took this pic during my mid-Feb closet cleanout....hence the bare shelves)

Komplement from Ikea is great!!! I have it and love it. Very organized and nice, everything in place, easy to find the right scarf and also decorative + do not take a lot of space
