Scarf storage?

Hi fab friends!

I have been hit-or-miss on the forums lately. Inspired by the gorgeous collection of scarves in Katarina’s thread, I started to wonder how you all store your scarves? Particularly the thinner, delicate ones.

I tried the kon mari roll method and slotting them in a box, but they all crease terribly. The ring hangers make them pleat (or they simply fall off).

What does your scarf storage look like?

I love your scarves, Nemosmom. I have not found a scarf storage solution. I have the rings in my closet, a basket, drawer dividers and hooks in a closet.
None of these methods of storage work for me. I need a new closet system.

I use the same velvet hangers I use for everything else, for all but two scarves that end up back in their fancy orange scarf boxes.

I keep long scarves looped on kind of ladder attached to the wall that my DH built for our scarves. For the warmer months I change woolly scarves for the linen and cotton long ones. Silk squares I keep folded flat in a box. Works for me.

I fold the thin ones of mine and stack them in a drawer flat in larger zip lock bags, about 5-6 per bag. Then they stay flat when I smoosh the air out, don’t tangle up as much as when I didn’t use the bags, and it’s easier to find the one I want. The woolly or warmer ones are stacked in the same drawer, but they aren’t as slippery, so I don’t use the baggies.

I have a box with a lid that most of them fit in similarly to yours and it is on a high shelf because I collect but rarely wear. One day that will change!

I store them gently rolled up, in boxes.

Cat2 - I also have one in its special orange box .

Oh, dear! I’m no role model. I’m wearing them a lot so they get tossed loosely onto the shelf above the coats along with the hats and gloves, or draped over the hanger under the coat. Every now and then I will fold them and layer them in the top drawer of my dresser. When they get wrinkly, I give them a steamy press with the iron (with a clean tea towel on top for protection from direct heat.)

I’ve got these three (Finds) in regular rotation.

I use ring hangers but I loop the scarves through a sort of slipknot (instead of just letting the ends hang) - I find they crease a little less this way, because the ends aren't flapping about/ getting caught in other things.

I have a LOT of scarves though (primarily rectangular ones & silk - with some cotton & wool ones too) but absolutely NO drawers, so I'm a little restricted by how I can store them anyway.

PS - I mentioned the double magnet scarf pins on @Katerina's thread. Whilst they're meant to hold scarves together during wear, I don't see why they couldn't be used for storage too:

Just pop one on either side of whatever hanging method you have to keep the scarves draped without folding or knotting. I have a friend that uses them on the side of her hanging shoe cubby!

I put my heavier, bigger scarves on pants hangers like the pic below. The lighter scarves go in a ring hanger. That being said, all of these storage solutions create creasing or wrinkling eventually, and I eventually decided just to invest in a clothes steamer. Before scarf season begins, I go through my scarves and steam all those that are badly wrinkled, and then I put them back on the pants hanger or in the ring hanger. They will eventually wrinkle again, but once they're steamed, they are good for quite a while.

I fold my silk and linen scarves and leave them on the top of the wardrobe, so that they are a daily visible reminder! When wooly ones are usually on the coat, it's easier to see them!

I have 15 or 20. I generally wear them, even the ones that aren’t thick or wooly, for warmth. They are folded and live in a little cabinet in the entrance hallway—Ikea Lixhult; no orange boxes here.

They're folded in a fabric bin on the shelf of my closet. I've hardly worn them in about 2 years. If I still don't end up wearing them after we can stop wearing masks, I'll probably pass on nearly all.

ST, I’m curious if, after so much mask wearing, people will be comfortable with and seek out a little something extra by their face, and seek out scarves, or if the opposite will happen and sleek tops will be in.

Mine are loosely rolled and placed into an over the door shoe container.

I was off them for a year BC19 too, cause I didn't like the feeling on my neck. For looks I decided I like them most with a sleeveless dress, but those days are generally too hot and humid for even thin scarves.

Scarf + topper of any sort feels ALGO and cluttery on me-maybe it's my short torso or my broad shoulders...

I fold them and store them in soft baskets in my accessories armoire (which also holds jewelry, hats, graphic tees, travel accessories, and swim and workout wear).

Not perfect but it works. A couple of times a year I tend to take them all out, fluff and refold. They’re not tightly packed, despite appearances.

I have gone through so many scarf storage methods. I’ve looped them over the bars of pants hangers and used the ring holders, as well, but now I just keep them loosely folded in a drawer. (I passed the ring holders on to my husband, who needed a solution for his many soccer scarves!)

I've posted this before but I have built in scarf storage and it's pretty handy. It's two layers -- the first one swings out like a door (third pic is back layer with front layer open).

Thank you, everyone! Seems like mine are set up in a very similar way. Maybe I need to not cram them so tightly and they won't crease Or, carve out time to steam them a couple times a year...

I have three places that I store them... (actually four in total)

- most are on a ring hangar in the closet.
- a few small silky ones that are rarely worn are in a drawer with my evening clutch bags
- a couple of sentimental but never worn are in a different drawer
- sports ones (go Chiefs!) are in a bag with sports hats by our door.

I go in and out of favour with scarves more than other pieces. I am not too quick to cull them for this reason.

I also roll and fold and put them in containers in a drawer.

When I had more closet space I used this type of thing.

I use shallow drawers, where I fold the scarves. Inspired by the storage in some stores, where you can see them coordinated in each drawer. Mine are not color coordinated, but I separate by size and fabric, and also solid and patterned. My scarves occupy three units, each with 6 drawers. My thickest scarves and shawls I keep folded on shelves, where I also store sweaters. For many years I struggled with suitable scarf storage, but this system works for me.

I found that loosely gathering them & sliding them into gallon baggies (nope, not elegant!) helps avoid creases and the occasional clothes moth.

I used to fold precisely but the creasing was a problem for me.
