Scarf fringes/tassels - should they always be removed?

I have two scarves, one with a fringe, one with tassels. I'm planning on removing both, but is there any circumstance in which I should keep them?

The one with the tassels is below (modelled on our dog, Daisy, to provide the contrast to show it up because I could do it from my chair without having to move!). The other one is:

I like them both as they are. I think fringe/tassels feel more casual and boho than a clean edged scarf, but it's a different vibe, that's all. Which look do you prefer?

I would leave the fringe on the Boden scarf.. it doesn't seem long enough to mess with.
On the other one, it is really up to you? Do you like the fringe on it?
I have started removing the fringe on some of my scarves and leaving it on others.. just depends on the scarf and how I feel wearing it.

I would never remove fringe from my scarves! Most scarves have knotted fringe and I make sure each knot is secure and the fringe is even. Uneven threads can be carefully trimmed if necessary.

When I design a crochet or knit scarf, and I'm doing quite a few for Christmas, I pick out the fringe yarn FIRST and design around it!

Your pup is a good model! Nice contrast.

Not at all, Polly. I happen to prefer fringe-less scarves but if you like fringe - rock the look!

I have removed (or shortened) fringe on scarves when it's long enough that it easily gets tangled -- I've found that long fringe is too high maintenance for me!

Mary - LOL yes, I know what you mean!

Angie, I remembered you begging (perhaps that's going a bit far? lol) someone to remove the fringe from their scarf. Thinking about it more I think it was for a formal evening event but I'd somehow got it in my head that fringes were A Bad Thing!

Kim - wise words and I think you're right about the Boden scarf. I'll leave that.

Barbara - you are so CLEVER to be doing it yourself - love the idea of you designing it round the fringe!

neatnic - good point about the high maintenance long fringe problem - it's not one I've had to deal with until now.

I love fringe on scarves and also love ones that do not have it. It does add a bit more arty, boho look.
Angie never said all fringe should be removed- I cannot imagine she would think that. Often she will state her style preference and I think we sometimes get confused. I thought she hated black opaques. Not true- her dressy style does not work with the look.
She loves them on others- hopefully like me!!

I have some scarves with the fringe, and a few that had long scraggly fringe that I trimmed (got the idea from Angie--it would never have occurred to me before). I think it depends on the scarf and on your particular style.

Jean - yes I understand that completely. I think that this is making me think about exactly how something looks, which is always helpful.

I'm a fan of fringe, even though I really don't have bohemian style. I've thought about trimming some of the longer fringe on scarves, though.

It looks to me like if you cut off the fringe from that Boden scarf, it will just continue to fray. What a helpful pup you have! Personally I like scarves with and without fringe.

I've acquired two scarves recently. I trimmed the fringe off one because it was a bit straggly looking and I liked the cleaner edge (although now I'm getting stray threads and wondering if I should get it hemmed). The other was a bulkier pashmina style with knotted ends that I left alone because I felt they actually added a slightly dressier touch.
