Firstly, good wishes to anyone in the NE of the USA - its looking a mighty storm coming your way...
What sort of scarves (shape size) do you use to make neat statements? I am on business trip one of 6 over the coming few weeks and again I showed at the airport feeling a fail... My boss hopped on the plane also in jeans, black shirt, black flats with a neat little spotted scarf neatly round her neck. Noticed a few other nicely dressed people with similar outfits. Well yes I did have my enormous scarf scrunched somewhere in my hand luggage... and I have a whole box of enormous squares at home... This is fine if I am going somewhere colder and rugging up. But what shape and size scarf do I need to make a neat colour 'pop', collar equivalent etc on my travel and other outfits? Should I look for smaller rectangles? I am busty, round faced etc so too much bulk doesn't really work... Thank you for your advice! I think a couple of scarves with my basic wardrobe will be the thing!

Neck scarfs are cute. Short rectangular ones. Esp. with collared shirts.

Angie did a post awhile back about silky scarves being less bulky and that could be your answer. I have several that I usually wear in spring and summer but there is nothing wrong wearing them anytime if the year.

A standard sized silk square is very versatile. You can fold it in so many ways and its not bulky. Check out the blog MaiTai's Picture book for some more ideas. I also like a lightweight rectangle, with a double loop it lays fairly flat.

Just seconding missvee's advice. MaiTai's Picture Book is an amazing resource for wearing scarves. I am always inspired every time that I visit it.

I am not a scarf wearer due to the fact that I haven<code>t quite figured out how yet. I think one of the things you need to decide on before shopping is how high or low you intend to tie the scarf. Astrid sent me a tutorial on how to tie a scarf in one of the ways she uses so long ago but I still cannot find a scarf that I love in the proper colours. I</code>m wondering about going to a fabric store and just buying a length of fabric and making one myself. It seems there would be a lot more pattern and colour options in a fabric store.

Jen I have seen quite a few neck scarves around in stores. Polka dot ones are popular. I have seen them worn in a retro style in side the neck of a shirt/button down and the look is very cool and funky.

A scarf, even a large one, that's silk or maybe rayon usually isn't bulky. The short rectangle sounds ideal so that it isn't hanging over your bust. You also might try playing with knot placement. If your face is round, you may want the knot lower to create a V-neck effect. Letting the ends hang can create a good vertical line. Try reading the tutorials and then playing in front of the mirror.

It's been said already, but I agree that a square silk scarf in a versatile pattern or color is very useful in your wardrobe. I also have a long rectangle in a wool/silk blend with leopard pattern, that proves very easy to shape in a smaller loop around my neck If I want to. Polyester can work too, but are often less drapey and more fluffy than silk. If you can afford silk, it's definitely worth it.
