Saying hey and a question about shoe size

Hey there! I’ve been around on the forum but haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been sewing and not clothes shopping. I’m a bit bashful about posting my me-mades, but I wanted to ask about the sandals so I figured what the heck, I’ll include what I’m wearing today.

My question is about the sandals. These were an end of season purchase as I need a casual sandal to wear to an upcoming bridal shower. Does the fit look too small? I’ve been wearing them around the house and they seem good so far. These are 8.5, the 9’s were too loose in the heel strap. The leather is slightly snug across my left foot (my surgery foot from a few years back) but they seem to have stretched a bit and are fine right now (this is my second day of house wearing).

I included a pic of WIWearing today. It’s a casual day of taking care of my MIL after her knee replacement surgery. Me-made batik shorts (I saw a similar pair in a store and decided to make them) and top from J Crew Factory, naturally curly hair and no makeup!

Are the sandals a narrow size like mine? I take them in a US 6.5N. Fit does not look too small. Looks good. Comfy?

The fit looks great to me. Sometimes with a sandal you do need a smaller size, I've found.

Thanks rachylou, Angie, and Suz! Yes, Angie, these are the narrow size. It’s so rare to see sandals in a narrow size that I figured I’d better try them or I knew I’d regret it.

Woohooo. I’m high fiving your narrow feet, Karie. It is SOOOO hard to find sandals to fit my shape of feet.

I just got these in 6.5N too. See Find. I do sooo much walking in 100 degree heat these days - these have saved my feet.

I have these sandals too, and went for the N width (which I almost never do) and the lower of the two sizes I generally wear in shoes. I think Suz is exactly right that often we need a smaller size in sandals than other types of shoes. They look just right on your feet too, but make sure they feel good too. Those shorts look great! No need to be bashful about your me-mades - there are quite a few others on this forum who make their own clothes and post about them. Speaking for myself as a former maker of my own clothes (many years ago) I love to see other people's creations.

KARIE- cute sandals. While I love the look, I have never found a pair that comfortably feet my “ numerous surgery” plagued feet.....bummer. So more power to you.
With regard to me- made fashions. Be proud! I too sew and over the years made everything from my own wedding dress, dresses for entire wedding parties and Irish dance competition (feis) costumes, etc, etc etc. I made a lifetime of clothes for myself and daughter ( and her dolls) and doggie fashions for furry friends. Sometimes it was for financials but often it was to enjoy testing my skills or creativity. I often sew, mend and tailor for many friends who don’t know which end of a needle to use.
Remember that ready to wear and “fast fashion” is a recent phenomenon and that most everyone use to make their own clothing. It saddens me and many of my friends that it is currently cheaper to buy ready to wear than fabric. So we choose our sewing projects more carefully now.

Sandals look just right to me. Props for sewing. I tried to learn to sew last year. I wanted to work in silks and brocades and all kinds of wonderful things-fabric magpie. Then i learned why most people that sew dont use them-too fussy:(

Thanks everyone! I wore the sandals out of the house tonight so they are definitely keepers. The leather on the left shoe stretched perfectly and is now comfortable on my foot.

I loved reading all your comments about sewing! I am hoping to start making a fit & flare dress next week. We’ll see how that goes.

Pil, Cosmo and Callie are doing great. Cosmo turned 6 (already!) and Callie turned 3 in April. Time flies!
Angie, the other white sandals are sold out in my size but I ordered the black. I rarely wear black sandals, but I do wear them and the pair I have hurt my feet (an impulse buy when I was in Asbury Park, NJ - bad, bad, impulse buy). Fingers crossed that they’ll fit and be comfy!
