not to YLF - just some of my old formal clothes!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about re-organising my wardrobe and have a box in my room that I add clothes to whenever I decide they just aren't worth a spot in my wardrobe and when its full it goes off to charity... and as hard as this is, I think I'm about to add the following 3 outfits to it.

Now, I think the real reason I want to post this is to give these 3 outfits a proper "Goodbye" - they were worn for significant events, and, all made by myself...

So, without further ado, lets say goodbye to:

1. (Mauvey outfit). Long straight skirt, halter neck top.

I made this for and wore it to a formal Dinner Ball (no dancing - just eating and entertainment!), back in 2000. The skirt doesn't fit me anymore - way too tight! I contemplated keeping the top, but the reality is that its actually a bit short to wear with jeans (which is what I was thinking), and I'm not sure I even like the colour anymore.

2. (White & Blue ensemble) Long Straight Skirt, strapless white top with blue print.

This was my entry in the "Cotton Creations" contest - a sewing contest where entries had to be made of a cotton fabric. This contest was part of our Agricultural Show. I won our area, and was able to go to the state final. I didn't even place there, but that was totally ok with me, because I only entered as my friend was the Show Society Secretary and wanted at least one entry in every category LOL It was not my finest work and whipped up rather quickly!

3. (Red & White). Short straight skirt, white & red top.

I made this using the same pattern as the above two outfits, to wear to the only race day in the town I lived in back then. The top does not fit well at all - never did!

So, there you have it. The 3 outfits I've been carting around for 10 years now purely because I made them and they were pretty! I have never worn any component of either since, none of the skirts still fit me, and with the exception of the mauve top, the other tops aren't so good anymore either. I have no need for formal wear anymore and if I did, I'd certainly want clothes that fit me!

On to a new home for these 3 outfits...

(I did contemplate keeping them in my sentimental box, but as long as I have pics I really don't need to put anything else in it!!)

You're a great seamstress, they're all beautiful! I'd be tempted to keep #2, but I didn't say that. It's hard to say goodbye sometimes but worth it.

I would hold onto the red pencil skirt if I were you. It looks like a pretty basic and versatile piece that can be styled in various ways with a moto jacket or tuxedo jacket.

I actually really like the red skirt, but if you don't wear it, say goodbye! Good for you for cleaning out your closet!

I find it REALLY hard to let go of things. Clothes, papers, books... anything. But something that helps me a lot is thinking of how much someone else might love them (well, obviously old papers just go to the recycling bin but other things go to the thrift store). Picturing someone else being thrilled with the thrifted find has helped me a lot in the "saying adieu to old closet pals." Maybe this will help some of you, too.

Well done! I have recently said goodbye to quite a few much-worn, but severely unflattering items in my wardrobe. Now I have an excuse to buy some new, flattering things with YLD guidelines in mind! ;-P

I admire you for getting rid of these sentimental gowns. Love the fact that you have taken a pic to remember them by.

Although I do think that red pencil skirt looks fab. Are you sure it doesn't fit? I'm imagining it paired with boots and your new coat!!!!

The red skirt could be worn if I wear suck-em-in undergarments, and can stand in one position without having to sit down or walk LOL But I do agree that its very nice, so I should add a new red pencil skirt that actually fits me to my wish list!

Mac I was thinking that as I was putting them in the box - I honestly can't appreciate them anymore so someone else may as well.

Karen I used to sew heaps and heaps but these days I have so many distractions (ie children who like to "help"!), that I get frustrated and make mistakes. So these days I barely sew But do yell if you have any questions - maybe I can help!!

I now have an extra 6 hangers too just for a bit of an added bonus!

Theresa, you are very talented! All 3 outfits are very pretty, but it's good that you're able to let go. I have a skirt that no longer fits, because it matches one I made for my oldest daughter several years ago. I may have to say goodbye, too!

This has really inspired me to become a lot more ruthless with my wardrobe - I honestly feel nothing for these outfits now that they are in that box, whereas before, I felt nostalgic and guilty every time I saw them in my wardrobe!

Today's challenge is going to be sorting out the things I have bought over the years and never worn - and sadly there are quite a few things...

So stay tuned - this one will be trickier as I may need help deciding if things are worth keeping so I'm sure there'll be pics to come!
