Sandals for guys - not compatible?

What is the verdict? My hubby has a pair of sandals that he wears in strictly casual settings, park, beach. They kind of look similar to those:

They're getting worn down and I was thinking of getting him a pair as a Father's Day gift, does your SO wear sandals that you can recommend that look classy (not even sure if the work fits here LOL), I was against Men In Sandals but what a guy to do if it's a 90 degree day and we're hanging out in the park or heading to the beach... So I helped him chose the pair 2 years ago but he needs another one. No flip flop style, something good for plaid and cargo shorts, and casual pants. TIA!

I like those - they look manly and perfect for shorts weather. That said, my man will *not* wear anything but flip-flops or boat shoes with shorts.

Sure - but styles will depend on the guy. Mine wears Birkenstocks only. Nothing between the toes like flip flops. He's fairly fashionable and wears premium denim and fun button downs by Robert Graham but the sandals are non negotiable. I've actually gotten used to seeing him in the birks by now, although nothing about him is hippie in any way.

Men look good in Dr. Martens sandals. I've seen the Dr. Martens Fisherman ones on quite a few guys, and the chunkiness works well with their thicker, hairier legs.

My husband used to wear the Dr. Martens Fisherman Elisabeth linked to years ago, but they're chunky so these days if he's in beachwear he'll be sporting Reef sandals like these (which I much prefer personally): http://shop.pacsun.com/search/.....dex.search

Hate 'em.

Men are entitled to being comfy and cool in the summer, so I don't object to them, but I still hate how they look and can't possibly be objective.

I'm with Maya, hate sandals on guys except leather flip flops like Reefs or Rainbows. I live near the east coast and it is very casual here. I also like boat shoes with shorts, like Topsiders.

LOL @ Maya and Lynn, that's what I used to think too! I still am not a big fan of the look, but I can't imagine wearing closed shoes and socks in hot humid weather... It goes without saying that the feet have to be taken care of ;).
Anyways.. the boat shoes are not bad, gotta show him, I have to admit I'm not a fan of the Fishermen style sandals at all (the closed toe ones) - on anyone, I don't even put those on my 2 year old... I guess I'll keep the look out on the leather ones similar to the ones he already has lol.

I am okay with them if he has taken care of his feet. No gnarly extra-long toenails. Absolutely no visible toenail fungus.

I like leather flip-flops a lot, especially on young guys -which are the guys I take notice of, anyways- and my European dad, who works at a very casual setting, sports leather sandals all summer, no matter the occasion (except for weddings?). He's no businessman, so this might be a reason why. I do think there should way more options for guys in the shoe territory, and especially in the sandals sphere. They deserve to be fashionable too, and, let's face it, I've seen otherwise well dressed men sporting horrible sandals!
