I'm keeping a lookout for a replacement for my old but comfy nude casual platform sandals. I want something distinctive, with a heel, but very comfy and walkable, that will not look too dressy for shorts and a tee.

My search so far led me to these two sandals, by Matt Bernson (pics 1-7) and LDTuttle (pics 8-14).

I'd never seen MB shoes before and straight out of the box, they seem like high-quality shoes. Very comfortable with soft leather and a cushy footbed. They fit me really well too.

My hesitation? They're gold. A bit more gold than I expected, and I'm really more of a silver/cool tone (or even rose gold) metallic girl. Does the gold work as a "nude"ish color on me, or should I just move on?

The Tuttles -- sigh! I love them. Quality is wonderful. However, they don't feel very secure at the heel. The ankle strap is one long strap that weaves up from the vamp of the shoe, and I think my feet are a little too low-volume at th instep for them. See how the leather pooches up on the sides? That's because I've drawn up the straps to fit more securely. But as I move, the straps tighten around my ankle and loosen around my foot. No bueno.

Any advice on other shoes to try? What do you think of the MBs for me? If they were the color of the Tuttles I would not hesitate to keep. I *like* the soft gold, but does it look good on my skin?

What say you, wise fabbers?

I love the first pair, but they are definitely gold (probably why I like them)- Since you don't wear yellow gold do they come in another color? I love the look and fit but if you don't wear it then keep looking. I like the color of the tuttles, but agree too much leather pooching.
No suggestions, my footwear is not nearly this cool.

Honestly the MBs don't scream gold, they are almost flesh-toned. I love them on you.

They come in other colors, but they're either dark -- black, cognac -- or gold. The other option is tan and white:

I like the idea of those, but I'm not sure about the cutting horizontal white lines on me. I like nude heeled sandals for summer because I'm not crazy about the shape of my legs, and I feel like the nude color and heel are elongating and help emphasize my ankles and calves, and distract the eye from the entire area from the knee up. Well, at least that's my strategy!

Janet I actually love the look of the MB ones on you best. I like the soft gold and don't think it is too much. Are they comfortable ? They seem like they could be dressed up or down.

I can definitely see what you mean about the Tuttles in the picture. The bunching would bother me. Shame Both lovely neutral sandals though.

I'm not really a gold person either, but I think the Matt Bernsons look great on you. The gold isn't too yellow or intense and works almost as a neutral.

I think the gold of the MB's read as neutral on you and actually match your skin tone very well. And I prefer the style of them to the Tuttles to be honest. I like the heel height too. The leather puckering on the Tuttles would be a deal breaker for me and I think indicates your foot doesn't fill the sandal properly.

I wear this kind of pale silvery gold as a nude all the time. In fact, it's more nude on me than most colors labeled as "nude". Now admittedly I'm more gold toned than you but I think it works for you too. I really like them!

Interesting! I am liking the color on me more by the light of day than I did last night... but admittedly, my feet were a little red and swollen last night from doing a fair amount of walking in the new Jeffrey Campbell shoes -- they are not uncomfortable, but are taking a little bit of breaking in.

I'm wearing the MBs even as we speak, sitting here in my PJs. They are *really* comfortable.

I hear you about the gold color, because I'm picky about that, too, with silver jewelry. But honestly they do read as a nude on you. If the color is a deal-breaker for you, I think the tan and white ones would also be gorgeous, and possibly even more on-trend.
Too bad about the LDTuttles, because they're great looking, too.

I opened the link you provided to the MB's and pretty much squealed when I saw the white and nude pairing - seeing the details up close, they really are gorgeous and with the comfort level being there, I'd say these are total winners....do you think they'd work on my high volume feet?

As for how they would fit on a high-volume foot, it's hard to say. I think my feet are on the slightly low-volume end of the spectrum -- they are slightly narrow (although wider at the toe than they used to be, because why? I dunno, aging, running?), especially at the heel. Heels of pumps often slip off my foot. As you can see in the photos, the fit of these on my foot is quite good -- not tight but no gapping. The leather is really soft and comfortable, and I'm betting they would have some give for a wider or higher volume foot. Depending on how high-volume your feet are, I'd say they're worth trying. The quality is really lovely.

I too always favor silver over gold but I like these on you, a lot. I think the texture in the gold softens it a bit. It really does look nice on your foot and I think I even like they style better than the Tuttles.

Echoing everyone else - love the MBs! Have coveted the line a long time but have not bought - always gorgeous shoes. I have gold sandals and use them as a nude. And as IK said, these aren't a screamin' gold at all.

Thanks, everyone! This has been helpful. I have branched out from silver tones to rose gold in the last couple of years, so it doesn't feel like too far of a stretch to embrace this in my wardrobe. And the color is not a strong yellow-gold, so I agree -- I can see it as quite neutral on my skin.

Wearing them today and so far very happy with them! Yay for wild cards! Just goes to show it sometimes pays off to try something even if it's not exactly what you envisioned -- sometimes the real thing you find is even better than what you had in your head.

I feel the MBs are more you... the gold looks good to me with your skin tone. And it's a light gold... I think you would wear silver jewelry with them no probs.

I agree with Susie. Since the gold is textured, it doesn't scream "gold." I think it's working more as a neutral. I think those shoes look great!

The fit of the tuttles is making me cringe a bit as they look uncomfy but the gold MBs are lovely. Hope you keep them.

C'mon you knew these were awesome all along
I'm a recent convert to gold myself - I like it way better for my skin than a lot of beige-y so-called nudes. In fact my rose gold converse are nearly a nude on me. If you had asked me a year ago if I would wear rose gold shoes... All this to say I understand it's hard to overcome certain prefixed ideas but your gut was right on these!

I am clearly late to the party here, but I am so glad to hear you kept the MB shoes. I agree with others here that they almost read as a neutral against your skin and they don't scream "GOLD" to me at all. They look great on you, and the fit looks perfect.

Well, the MBs are superb on you - the fit is perfect, the straps are interesting and "Janet-ish" because of that. I think the gold is neutral/flesh-toned, rather than being a "statement in gold" for what it's worth. I'm so glad you are keeping them.
