I ordered the Sam Edelman boots that Angie featured in a recent blog post and thought I would share my impressions since there seemed to be a fair bit of interest in the style among forum members.

I bought the burgundy patent hoping to replace my existing burgundy patent booties that are showing wear.

The short version of the story: Next!

The longer version of you're interested in the details --

See photos comparing the Sam Edelman (longest shaft) to my existing black patent (medium shaft) and burgundy patent (shortest shaft) stompy boots -- both of which have been absolute staples for me the last 2-3 winters.

I was going to do a pros and cons list but the pros and cons are related so I'll just riff!
-I like the color and it's a good match/dupe for my existing boots.
-I like the high, narrow shaft, it looks elegant to me
-but actually the shaft is so narrow that a thin sock + legging barely fit (I have very narrow ankles/calves) - doubt I could tuck skinny jeans in which I like to do with the black ones
-the boots are not too hard to get on (I have a low volume foot and low arches)
-they feel quite narrow in the toe box and narrow vertically when on. I took my usual size, could try sizing up (I wear 1/2 size larger than what I consider my usual size in SE ballet flats, maybe the brand just runs a little small?)
-holy cow they are a pain in the neck to get off. I do not have a "put shoes on and leave them on all day" lifestyle, I have a "run in and out of the house multiple times a day" lifestyle, and being honest I think I'd default to footwear that is easier on and off. Note to self: prioritize zippers.
-aesthetically, not sure I love the very wide and very square margin of sole around the edge of the boot when viewed from above. My existing stompy boots might go up to the limit of desired stompiness for me. (I'm short and have a small frame, so moderately stompy reads plenty stompy on me I think).

To reiterate: Next!
(And why oh why won't Sorel bring back the style of my black patent boots? Sob!)
