salon mani-pedi sloppy: what would you do?

This is what I get for cheating on my regular mani lady. Haven't been back to our usual salon since pedi went painfully wrong, and today I stopped into a new salon after an appointment in a different part of town. Big mistake.

On the plus side, I chose nude polish, so toes are tolerable until next week. But hands, oh dear. At least she didn't over-cut the eponychium, but they're not even pushed back. Polish on fingertip edges will wash off, but the ridges of excess along sides of nails, probably not so much.

If your nail salon service went wrong, woulud you DIY your re-do, or try to get in at your always-booked-ahead person, or just laugh off the mediocrity and live with it?

I think of myself as RATE, but this is making me wonder.

Usually, I would complain about shoddy work - but the exception to my rule is that I don't let people who have messed up my hair, eyebrows or nails take another crack at me!

What I would definitely do is leave an honest review online about your experience, so that other people know what they are getting for their money! Google other salons in your area, and choose a place that is consistently and recently rated highly. If you see a woman with an exceptionally fine manicure, ask her where she goes.

I am very sorry you had to go through this. If you can afford to, I would go get your mani-pedi redone somewhere with great ratings. If this is a regularly budgeted activity, search YouTube for some good tutorials and DIY

I agree with LBD that I wouldn't go back to someone who messed up but I find there is a great deal of skill variance at one salon. You could call the salon that messed up and ask for a more skill manicurist to fix you up. There should be no charge so you aren't out anything if it's still not great. If you don't want to go back there then ask around and find someone good to redo your nails.

I had a pedi done a couple of years ago. I had it done on a Friday and on my first go in the swimming pool on Sunday the whole toe-nail shaped piece of polish on one of my toes floated off. My son retrieved it from the bottom of the pool and I kept it as evidence. The other toes rapidly followed suit with major chips etc.. As soon as I could after getting back home from my holiday I went back to the salon and had a full refund. They offered me a free manicure and I declined saying I could do a better job myself

I would try to get my money back.
That may be no advice, but I have may nails done by women, who are still learning this trade. They take longer, but they are under their teacher supervision at any time, and the sanitary rules are the strictest. The learning center is next to my office building, and the cost is symbolic. There was only one time when the young lady totaly messed the french manicure, but that never repeated. I found out them accidentaly

Thanks, all. Mid-range nail salons are a caveat-emptor thing, so I'll leave a yelp review with photos. I'm very happy with my regular mani person, just won't be able to get in with her until late next week. Pedi-wise, I need to switch within our usual salon but will procrastinate that ...

For DIY, I do have the skills and tools. Generally though it makes sense to outsource this task, since doing it myself means I'm effectively being paid a much lower hourly rate than my actual job, for something I enjoy far less.

I always inspect my nails and if I'm not happy I make them fix it. After the fact I'd probably just let it go and not go back to that place.

I would fix it myself and let it go...However, that said, would not frequent the nail salon or that person again...JMO

I have had this happen and as much as I don't like to complain I went back to give feedback to the management. They were happy I let them know and did it over properly. You could phone and ask to speak to the owner/manager.

Originally I meant to phrase the post as more of a polished/RATE question, than as a consumer one. And I did it: I left the mediocre mani/pedi as-is! Over a holiday weekend, no less. Not worth the discomfort, but I survived.
