Sale loot - keep/return - YouLookFab Forum

Most of my Talbots and Ann Taylor orders arrived! Here's what passed the harsh and brutal cull, along with my preliminary assessments.

1) Green tweed jacket. I think the color/fit isn't quite right for me. It was much better on Sarah. Return.

2) Black scoopneck top. Ok, but not a 10. This wasn't on "deep sale" so this is a Return.

3) Cabled turtleneck sweater. I can knit my own but the yarn would cost me more than what the sweater cost me. I can wear it immediately. Keep.

4) Velveteen jacket. Baggy in the torso on me. Again, much better on others. Return.

5) Black plaid jacket. This is the highest quality of the three jackets - nicer lining, the plaid matches up, fits better. Keep

I have to say that the quality of my Jigsaw jacket is far superior to any of the three jackets from Talbots. The outer fabric, the inner lining and the little design touches are much nicer and I now feel that despite the high price, it was worth it to splurge on one really special item.

Sylvie, it sounds like you have your loot sorted as to returns and keeps. I congratulate you on being particular about what you keep. The cabled sweater looks great on you and cozy. I'm sorry that the velveteen jacket is baggy. I really like it otherwise.

I LOVE that plaid jacket! I'm impressed that you can knit a sweater, but that's smart to buy one when you find one you like for a good price.

@Joy and kellygirl: The photo doesn't show how bad the fit of the velveteen jacket it. Especially when I move, it just sort of bunches up all wrong.
@Jem and Taylor: I'm pretty pleased with the plaid jacket. Re: sweater, I just hope my knitting friends don't disown me.

I have to admit that I do like the green tweed jacket unbuttoned and wish I could keep it. I bet the color is really beautiful in natural light but it's just not going to be flattering on me.

Sorry to hear that the jackets' quality wasn't so great I thought Talbots should be old school quality.

I do think the green tweed jacket fit looks pretty darn good too, but best unbuttoned. Is it the color that makes you decide to return?

Sylvie, I like all the jackets from the front. But when I see the back view I desperately want to see a size up - or you must leave them unbuttoned. They are definitely too snug when buttoned up. They are all great looking though

The jumper is a super casual little item and fits well.

@MNSara: I didn't mean to denigrate Talbot's quality. The Talbots jackets *are* high quality and they pass my personal quality test. However, the Jigsaw jacket is far, far superior in quality - much more so that most of what is in my closet. I paid sale prices for all jackets but for reference, the original price of the green tweed jacket was $160, the plaid jacket was $190 and the Jigsaw jacket was 200 pounds! We talk a lot on the forum about when it's worth splurging and when it's not, so I wanted to provide another data point about a case when the extra cost did buy me a better quality item.

I'm iffy on the color of the green tweed jacket as well as the fit when it is buttoned. I agree with Angie that it really only works unbuttoned.

@Angie, I think the black plaid jacket is not pulling as tight across the back as the others and will lie smooth when I have clipped the threads that hold the "tails" together.

I will try restyling both the green tweed and black plaid jackets with their tails clipped and buttoned/unbuttoned this evening and will try to post photos.

I really love 5 from the front, and I hope it is perfect once you clip those threads and free the "tails."

The black plaid jacket is super, Sylvie, and I'll bet you'll get a lot of wear from it. Love the cable sweater, too. It sounds as if you are getting really confident about what will work for you and what will not; that is a huge part of the battle! So glad you were able to get some good sale purchases.

I also appreciate your mentioning the quality of the Jigsaw; it is really useful to hear about brands that we may not have tried. Now that will be in the back of my mind.

I like jackets #1 and #5 on you, but agree with Angie that a size up would fit better on both, especially if you want to have the option of wearing these buttoned closed.

I think the same issue of being too tight in the waist is keeping the velveteen one in #4 from hanging right and that may be why it's gaping higher up and bunching up, above the buttoned waist.

Love the sweaters - are you keeping both colors? So cozy looking (I'm all about cozy right now...)

I'm going to let this thread die, since I didn't get a chance to do any jacket photography and I'm going to run to the store and see if I can find larger sizes.

Suz: Thank you! I'm certainly getting better at filtering out "good pieces" but still working on putting them together.

Nicole: The sweater is pretty comfortable - a little itchy though so it needs a base layer.

Claudia: The velveteen jacket is bunching because it's too long in the torso for me and the narrowest point is hitting my high hip. Being shortwaisted is no fun.

AG: Hehe, it's one sweater - with flash and without, to make it easier to see the color and texture. It's a beautiful pale grey - I'm half sorry I didn't order the limegrass color as well.
