Sack of potatoes part II - better?

Thought I'd start a new thread relative to the skirt outfit only. Ceit suggested tapering the skirt - another "doh" moment for me. It is only pinned in these pictures, so not quite what the end result would be. I won't be able to go quite as narrow at the bottom as there is no kick pleat in this skirt. One plus to blocking my face is that you don't see the pin prick grimaces.

In photo #1 I do like it with the gold sweater and blouse, as texstyle originally suggested trying out.

"A " suggested trying the sweater tucked in the skirt, which I did, but it won't work because the rolled hem of the sweater telegraphs through the skirt.

Photo #2 is the Lands End sweater with the tapered skirt. Photo #3 is the pairing from the original thread.

A la Shannon (don't know how to get those accents on the vowels) photo #4 is a close up of my accessories. The clutch is a recent $3 thrift store find. I love it! The necklace may have belonged to a great-aunt, so probably early 1900's? I've no idea what it is made of.

Am I on the right track with the tapering? Does it help the stripe sweater work any better? Thanks!

I like it! I think the slight taper really does zing up the skirt. I really like 1 as well!

I like both outfits in #1 and #2. I agree that tapering the skirt seems to help. It looks more modern now.

No potatoes here! I love the way your scarf, boots and belt pick up your hair color. Very pleasing to the eye.

I like the original outfit in #3 the most. I don't think it's worth tapering this skirt, because it lacks a kick pleat or a slit, you can't go all the way. They way you've pinned it is not enough of a difference to be worth the effort IMO.

Not sack of potatoes looking to me. Things are being worn in a looser manner right now.

I also like the original outfits you posted with the dark pants in your prior thread. Outfit #1 looks very corporate to me and timeless but not necessarily current. All of your other outfits look more modern to me.

Cocolion, that is an interesting observation! It's pretty obvious that I'm very conservative, but I like the thought of being almost current. Hmmm. Do you mean outfit #1 in this thread is the more corporate look?

Nice. I think it does help a bit, though it would be better if you could do it even more...I don't suppose you can open it up in the back a bit while you are at it?

But I like both outfits, and I love your accessories, and I also love the way you and your pooch match!

To me this colour combo is super sophisticated and elegant. And the boots bookend your hair brilliantly.

Suz, I think adding the pleat in the back is more than I can handle without a pattern. Jules, that is a thought. I do have an emerald green knit top I could try.

I like the skirt slightly tapered. It looks good with the blouse and sweater as well as with the striped shirt. Very nice! Love your accessories too!

Jules, you got me to thinking of trying the emerald green top with a completely different skirt. I have a black pencil skirt and some black boots.........

I think this is all going in a great direction. Very elegant with the little edge provided by the boots. The clutch looks like a great find.

Did you try belting over the sweater to give a little more bombshell? I would also like to see a chunky bracelet (or two or three)or a little more "bling" a la J. Crew styling to take it more "holiday". Keep playing and posting ok?

I still really like #3, but yes, tapering does seem to take a single fold out of the front --- which does smarten up the skirt, but I also wonder if it makes the same difference in real life. I'll bet you don't go through most of your life standing still, and movement makes a difference in this kind of skirt I find --- have a few of those that do the 'fold' thing too in a straight pattern, but taking them in to taper means they then get horizontal wrinkles from sitting due to the lack of a vent/slit or kick pleat!

A bit more tapering and try the hem above the knee. Yes with the belting of the sweater and some chunky jewelry per Mia! A little shape would give you a lot of sass!
