I went to the pool for the first time in 2 years, but when I was changing in the bathroom I noticed bleach spots on my Kettlewell skirt They go as high as my knees, and I don't wear short flared skirts, so wouldn't just hem. I don't want to try to bleach it more to make it look intentional either. I'm heartbroken They were Not sympathetic at all. Kettlewell isn't even making this skirt in this color now so I can't just bite the bullet and replace.

The catch is I have 2 tops exactly the same color- so it wouldn't be exact if I overdye it. I emailed Kettlewell to see if they may carry it again.

I just ruined my lavender boiler suit. Spilled coffee, did the stain removal thing, and now the front upper left is paler than the rest Let’s chalk it up to the astrological weather…

Aww no, I'm sorry Is that the olive green colourway of the jersey skirt? Such a shame - is it at the front or the back of the knees?

Speaking of astrology, maybe the stars will align for you on another colour instead? The pecan & plum purple in particular look delicious (not so sure about blue spruce)...

Oh, what a bummer. Bleach stains are my nemesis also and why I generally change to house wear as soon as I am home.

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and to such a lovely piece. When I was at university I did a similar thing to a favourite dress. My friend and I decided to get creative and deliberately bleached the rest of the dress in sections. Amazingly it turned out really well, a custom designed dress. If you are thinking of getting rid of the skirt, it would be worth trying this.

We looked at the original stains and my friend who is artistic, created a stencil for a pattern with which to apply to the entire dress in patches which then formed a nice pattern. She did three stencils, one for the lower part of the dress (a bigger pattern, where the original stain was) and graduating up the dress to a much smaller pattern. We used these stencils to customise the rest of the dress and left the sleeves solid.

Another idea would be to cut a panel out of the skirt and replace with a complimentary panel (for example similar fabric but in black) so it looks deliberate.

I am sorry this happened. I haven't the slightest idea how to "fix" it. Hopefully some of the ideas others have given will work. And maybe they will carry it again. I know you said you have two tops the same color. If nothing else works, I think you should give yourself permission to get it in another color they have and that you like, also a top in the same color. I know for a fact that is what I would do!

Thanks all! I am very tempted by the blue spruce color, but I need to buy tires this month. I'm very sad about it, cause it's finally cool enough out to wear it :/

There are a lot of spots that have the bleach, so the stencil idea could work. I'd rather just overdye it though if I can. Unfortunately the colors that looked similar at Dharma Trading aren't available due to supply chain issues.

I don't use any bleach in the house cause the cats, so wasn't even thinking in that way at the pool.

ETA- Kettlewell just said they're not restocking the color this year. I really wish companies would have things consistently.

Bummer! This happened to me once- I was wearing a brand new shirt and I leaned against a freshly-cleaned countertop that had been bleached

I was looking on Ebay but didn't see it. They didn't have much Kettlewell at all on there.
Thinking I'll order the spruce and maybe the pecan in a few weeks. I have a few teal tops that I don't like with black that could work with them.

Gosh that’s unlucky.l suppose that Angie is right about bleach being everywhere but really you would think that they would warn you at the pool.It is a toxic substance after all,you wouldn’t want to rub it in you eye by mistake.Gutting to have a favourite skirt damaged like this.

Oh no! I hope you’re able to repurpose it or repair it. I love the stencil idea.

About five years ago I ruined my favorite olive chinos with bleach (trying to deter bears from breaking into my chicken coop ). I ended up Rit-dying them black, but never quite loved them as much as when they were green.

Update on the skirt- I overdyed it. Still not perfect so I will probably hit it again.

I didn’t respond earlier because I had no feasible suggestions. But the idea of using more bleach is a very good one.

I used to follow the knitting blog below and was interested in using bleach on denim yarn. But I wanted to see what it might look like without investing a lot of time and money and then ruining my project. So I bought a cotton sweater at the thrift store for $4. I laid it out on the lawn and then went to town splashing bleach on it. I wish I had a picture of it. It had a lot of movement. People came up to me to ask where I bought it because they wanted one too. Really, it was stunning. Anyway, here’s the blog and their post about bleach. I never did knit a sweater with denim yarn. My $4 sweater was better than anything I could have imagined.
