Great, Merwoman.

That's exactly it, Suz. One design feature at a time is fab. This is what I am wearing right now actually (white skinnies have been hacked to showcase ankle strap sans roll). A little flounce and flare on the peplum, and the rest is tailored.

Suz and others, here is another outfit I've worn a few times already too: Neck tie blouse (bow), Love Story Jeans (flare), Smythe equestrian blazer (peplum flounce). Specs and clutch add a good dose of modern. I'm REALLY into Retro this year, and loving it.

Angie is a master. She knows just how to add a TOUCH of these elements to keep the outfits fresh. No overboard, no too much, no extreme - just a hint of these elements and wham, a modern outfit with these influences in a subtle dose. Amazing teacher, that Angie

I'm interested to see the newer iterations of these features, but a few of them can go into wrong-for-me territory--bow-necked blouses are SO not me, and if fringe goes too Western, I steer clear. Flounces and ruffles can skew too girly for my taste, but I do have an older shirt with a ruffled placket that leans menswear-y that I plan to put back in rotation once it's cool enough here. It does echo the 70s a bit in its style, chocolate color, and metallic thread detail (anyone else remember those metallic-thread shirts that were so popular back then?), though it's from the 2000s.

I'm waiting on delivery of some flared jeans that actually come short enough to be proportional out of the gate, a HEWI for petites! I have a feeling these will be my only true flares (if they fit), since I think petite-scaled flares will be hard to find in anything other than denim.

I haven't worn bows or ruffles since I was a child and I never wore fringe. I passed on my peplum top this year as I never wore it. Never say never though.

Yes to fringe, flounce, and flair, but only in small doses and more dramatic forms. Bows, not so much.

Oh I love these outfits, Angie! I particularly LOVE #2 with the white blouse and blue flares. So fabulous!

PS: I have NEW ideas for tomorrow Thanks Again!

My retro is a bit more late 30s and 40s than 70s, but I always like feminine details. I'm always a bit fearful, however, of coming across as a bit "midlife gaudy." That won't keep me from trying, though. I'm ready for these changes!

The perks of being a long time YLF reader... I remember when ruffles were really trending and then a few years later when they were feeling old and overdone. Love that they're feeling fresh again!

I have to say I'm finding them a welcome relief to the plain minimalist aesthetic that's been so strong. They aren't looking childish to me like they had been. But I don't like fringe done hippie. Boho hippie is looking very dated and costumey to me...

I really want to see you in that second outfit, Angie -- it looks wonderful! I like the English-meets-Western equestrienne attitude it seems to exhibit. Sort of 70s, sort of now.

Being more of a tailored girl, I can't see incorporating any of this in my wardrobe.

But I will. If the overall YLF rule is to have fun with fashion, my personal #2 rule is never say no to Angie. I may squirm today, but I'll be wearing a flounce or a fringe somewhere. Eventually!

Interesting interpretations. While I see bows and ruffles to be very feminine and almost flirty, I find a peplum to be more sophisticated especially if it is in a fabric that drapes like silk.

Love flare--never really completely let that go, so I'm all over that....
Fringe....have been seeing that around quite a bit in the stores, but it leaves me cold...just not me at this point.
Have loved the peplum/flounce looks but have yet to find one just right for my body and life; and ruffles I enjoy a little...but think at this point I might looks silly. Same with bows--NEVER liked them--if my mom were still alive she'd tell the story of me continually taking off my "bow patent leather" shoes because I hated that darn bow! Still find them too "twee" for me. Others can pull them off well. I like lady like very much, and pretty, but have to pair it with sleek and tailored. Awaiting more examples, with the caveat that it's a woman's prerogative to change her mind!!!

Yes to fringe and flare. They are close to my heart. I have a ruffled, plaid with lace trim shirt from 8 years ago that I have kept. I was never into ruffles or bows but this shirt is olive green and brown so grabbed me as I walked by. I mean when do you see brown lace? I guess it is a romantic poet shirt. It will get a showing soon.

I have never been into lady like or that kind of thing. So the bows, ruffles and flounces will have a small places in my wardrobe. I will have a small place though.

Yes I would give most of these a go, especially a flare, a bow, and I am actively looking for the right peplum top now....after seeing Maneera and Cheryle and Angie look so wonderful in their ones.

I am unsure about fringe for me unless it is a fringed 1920s dancing dress!!

I was just looking at my outfit today and thinking that I wished it had a little feminine detailing to balance out all the masculine/modern bits. I went a little overboard on ruffles the last time around, so I'm keen on adding in small amounts in moderation to soften up some of my looks.

I have always liked flares and fringes. Ruffles and bows not so much. But never say never!

I'm in for flare and fringe (don't think those ever left me...)! Tentative yay for a little ruffle and flounce, if it's interesting. No bows for me

I love a well done ruffle, flare or flounce! Love your examples too Angie!

Hmm. Maybe I'll say "Yes" to that back-ordered Nordies ottoman peplum that won't be delivered until January. . .I can't see myself in ruffles or most bows, however; they're just too girly.

I bought two bow blouses this summer, one a black star print Equipment, and one from NAS.

The Equipment one I saw in a more rocker look with Kate Moss that works quite well with black jeans.

I've been kind of thinking of one of those skinny scarves.

I like the idea of fringe, but I don't think it works on me.

I'm still wearing my bow blouse from - hmm - 4 years ago?

Lik Mariana I can remember the whole ruffle thing years ago on YLF - I think I only just got rid of some of my ruffled blouses from that era (in fact I'm wondering if I gave one to my daughter and could take it back!!)

Peplum tops appeal to me heaps but I am resigned to them not fitting my long torso.

I quite like some of the tailored 70's vibes. The 70's seems a better fit for my straighter body type than say, the 50's.

Until recently I was pretty closed minded about these kinds of details. Too feminine, too distracting, too..

But now I like them for the textural interest they can provide, and that little bit of embellishment. They're a lot less trouble to wear than jewelry!

Just when I said that fringe leaves me cold, look what I found on Danier.

Never say never. It is all in the execution, apparently.

Yes to flares!

Not wild about the rest, personally, but the occasional ruffled item will appeal to me, if it's the right kind of ruffle. I think I now have one too with tiers that are basically ruffles, and one peplum top. Not big on bows at all, never have been. And I feel like a poser in fringe. Heh. But I'll rock some flares!

I bought a fringed bag on ebay today. I'm so excited!

I love ruffles but I am really looking forward to a little finge. I use to have a suede fringed jacket in the late 70's . I hadn't thought about it in years. Would love to find a modern version. I agree with the others it's all about the styling.

Yes to fringe! I've always been on team fringe. And I like some ruffles when done in a soft, modern way. Also a bit of ruffle with some tailoring as counterpoint interests me as a styling idea.

Although I don't feel I can embrace the whole look, I am certainly looking forward to some femininity.
