I was in Roots this morning and I finally tried on a pair of boots that I have been looking at for ages. They have a little strap that you can put on or leave off. I have it on in #2. They are $298 and right now 15% off. Very comfy and hand made. This would be my first big boot purchase. What do you think? Should I buy them?

They are very cute. Is there enough room to tuck in your jeans, if that's how you intend to wear them? Boots make my heart skip a beat... =)

they have a RATE vibe to them.

Yes there is space for skinnies. The leather is a bit more uniform in colour that they look. The are buttery thick leather. They may be a bit RATE I'm not sure that always confuses me.

Erin, they are great casual boots. As for the quality, it is likely to be high. I had a pair of Roots shoes years ago and really loved them; ditto a bag I used to have from them. Very rugged and long-lasting.

Some questions to ponder? Are they lined or not? You might want to ask about stretching (i.e. some boots without lining will stretch more; that might not be a good thing). Also, how is the weight on your foot?

If you LOVE them you will love them forever. If you're on the fence, then don't buy. What is RATE?

I love these. Beautiful and tough.
The only reason to hesitate is if you wanted something sleeker for your first boots.

I found a shorter pair of Roots with a similar sole & rounded toe last May - I wear them all the time. So comfy. I reached for them when my foot was hurt.

Mine have a kind of dusty finish - do these? I can put shoe polish on mine, but the dusty effect stays through; they can't be "polished". literally

RATE: Rough around the edges

I love them, of course, but they remind me of a pair of Fryes I rarely wore because they were really stiff. How is the leather - does it seem like it will give over time? Can you sit comfortably in them? I can't tell where they are in relation to your knee joint.

If you're after a casual vibe, these are fantastic. You can't beat the quality of something hand made. The will mellow and get more beautiful over time.

Greenglove- I do like the look of them I find them casual in a classic kind of way.

Suz- Good to hear about your Roots shoes. I have never tried any footwear before. The girl from the store swears by hers. There is no lining and she did tell me that they will stretch out. I was tempted to try a larger size but she said they will end up too big. They are not heavy at all.

Fern- I woudl love a sleeker pair in black too but I haven't fond the right ones yet. I'm a bit fussy as I do not really like zippers on my boots unless part of the style. I do love a pair of Fryes but they are so pricy. I'm happy to hear that you love your boots as I have never tried Roots before, these are not that dusty looking but I do know what you mean.

Alaska Girl- They are not stiff at all, I think thaty may even slouch eventually They hit me right under my knee cap which surprised me as I have a 34" inseam.

I like the looks of these boots alot. Remember that pulling zipperless boots on over pants can be tricky.

I like them! I always just tuck my pants into some tight socks if I'm wearing my pull-on boots.
