Ripped and torn

I was looking through the February Vogue (U.S.) and came across a two page spread about how Parisiennes appreciate American fashion. I noticed a ripped tank top and then noticed the price, $600 (Balmain tank top by Bergdorf Goodman)!

I'm relatively new to fashion but I was really curious about this. Who do you think buys this tank top?? I understand investment pieces and even trends, but it really looks like a rag. I know I have more than a touch of my Great Depression grandmother in me, but I was really puzzled over this one.

I laugghed out loud when I read this! And I'm inclined to agree with Khris as to the target audience. If these people have no better use for their money, I'd be happy to take it off their hands.

Check this leather jacket, which I perversely like a lot, but would never pay for at this price - the lining is deliberately torn and hanging out.

One designer talks about how he made these jeans that were so shredded they only had a few wears in them before they would literally fall apart, and blow me down if people didn't buy them anyway.

Una, I absolutely love everything about that jacket, down to the very color. It's one of the only leather jackets that's emitted a visceral reaction from me all season! The other was a ruffled blue $600 number way out of my price range, too. Darn you for showing me these things (I'd love to come away with that top, too, for my BF shorts and platform sandals ensemble in my head)

Mo, me too! I think it's the crop length and the oddly feminine color. If it were half the price, I'd consider it. But I don't know anyone who wouldn't laugh at me for wearing it with the torn-up lining, even if I got it at a thrift store.

I am not normally a ripped and torn fan though - weird.
