My students have segued from strains of Les Mis and Phantom to the hip-hop spoken word and tight harmonies of "Hamilton," a new musical based upon the life of Alexander Hamilton. If you're unfamiliar, here's an excerpt of an interview with its creator, Lin Manuel Miranda:

I'm fascinated by the fashion: There are Jefferson and Hamilton, debating in a rap showdown of a cabinet meeting, in elaborate coats! Hercules Mulligan appears in a Patriot's uniform and a do-rag, dancers in sleeveless uniform jackets, and women from the bordellos in period undergarments, riding breeches and boots. Oh, and course, the lovely Schuyler sisters, draped in silk of sherbet shades -- with modern hairstyles!
So will my students sport corsets and petticoats for prom? I think not! However, I could imagine a pair of riding boots and leggings, a period-inspired vest with a sleeveless, ruffled blouse.
And I am "Not gonna miss my shot!"
