Revisiting last year's "secondhand only" goal

Last year I resolved to try, except for shoes and undergarments, to buy only pre-owned wardrobe items. How did I do?

Well, due to a disappointing-for-me NAS (returned everything), it wasn't as hard as I thought. The only new things I bought were a Barbour sweater sack-dress and some Heat Tech replacements. I was extremely picky about condition and quality when ordering from TRR and also about not buying anything marked FINAL SALE.

The dress was one featured by Angie. My vision for it is to find flat-heeled, tall cream boots but since I don't have those yet, I'm improvising.

Let's see how long I can keep this going.

Glad to hear that your strategy for purchasing second hand clothing is working out well for you. There certainly is plenty of pre-owned clothing available for sale for anyone who prefers to shop this way. Kudos for giving these pieces a new opportunity to be worn again. Also the Barbour dress looks fab and so comfortable and cosy too.

I am happy that buying pre-worn items is working well for you. I have found a very picky consignment shop that allowed try ons even during Covid. Everything is freshly cleaned and ready to wear.

I am considering a similar challenge this year, excepting footwear and undies, only second hand. We'll see if I manage it!

Great dress! I like the idea of buying secondhand, but haven't always had great luck. My local shops have a lot of stuff that I already rejected at the outlets, and I'm not comfortable ordering online if I can't return.

Well done! I have 4 thrifted pieces in constant use- it’s only a tiny start but still a start. I don’t think I feel confident enough to try consignment yet, the pieces are more expensive than the “Goodwill”-equivalent type stores.

My town has a higher-end consignment shop that I really need to start visiting more often. It has no parking lot to speak of and since my mobility is somewhat unreliable, it's a bit of a disincentive to park on the street and walk up a fairly steep hill. But of course that's an excuse - just do it, April!

Yay for a mostly secondhand year! You rocked your challenge! I buy most of my clothes secondhand (online)--I love the bargain hunting and the variety available. That's annoying about the big hill in front of the local consignment shop; do they have an online shop?
