Yesterday, I found myself in Nordstrom's, so I made a visit to the cosmetic section to find a new foundation. As I mentioned in the last Foundation post, I have been using Laura mercier's oil-free foundation, and I have been less than impressed. Actually, I hate it.
So I went to the Prescriptives counter, and I was impressed with several things:
1). The range of "types" of foundations. They had any coverage from sheer to heavy, oil-free, tinted moisturizers, etc...
2). The colors of the range. Prescriptives has a method of determining the appropriate color for foundation that goes beyond the person working at the counter eyeing your skin and testing several shades. It is called "Color Print."
I originally went for their sheer "traceless" skin tint. I dislike the feel of foundation on my face, and I usually only use it to cover blemishes and redness. Plus, my skin has been so dry this winter that I thought a tinted moisturizer would be good. It was too sheer, unfortunately. I imagine my skin to look like it did when I was 18--clear, translucent, creamy. But at 28, it's more spotty, big pores, yucky. Sheer just didn't work. We went to the next level of coverage, found a perfect color, and I loved it.
The product is called "Virtually Fresh", it says it is skin refining make-up, lightweight, clean finish, with SPF protection and it is oil free. The sheer to medium coverage was perfect to cover my blemishes, but didn't look like I was wearing make-up. The woman at the counter put it all over my face, which is more than I would usually wear (and I could feel it, which I didn't like), but the coverage was flawless. So far, I'm sold.
