Today I received the first pair of Emmerson BF jeans that I ordered. I ordered two sizes in different washes.

This pair is the darker wash. There is lots of whiskering on the thighs. Not really where I want to bring attention. The rise is lower than I want and the waist is really large. The jeans fit well everywhere else. A smaller size would fit. I can tell that these jeans would stretch out. Years of experience wearing jeans has made me an expert.
So these are a no.

Since I ordered the jeans Nordstrom has a higher rise Emmerson in a lighter wash. I am considering ordering those.

I also received two ivory Caslon long-sleeved T-shirts. One with a scoop neck and one with a crew neck. LOVE. The material is soft and the fit is great. I ordered a small and they seem true to size. I could have gone done a size but now I don't have to worry about shrinkage. The ivory is a very warm colour. Perfect.

I am thinking of giving up on BF jeans and looking for wide legged jeans. See Seaside jeans.

Style Fan, my sweet lady. You are forgetting that BF jeans are baggy on the waist and need to be worn with a belt. They should also be worn lower than the natural waist. Suppose to look slouchy - which is polar opposite to the fitted high waist culottes you like to wear.

From what I can gather, the C of H BF jeans fit right. I can’t do anything about the streaked wash though. Doesn’t sound like whiskering.

Thanks for this review. I love the look of those Seaside trousers. I think they would go well with your aesthetic Style Fan. Angie, you make an interesting point about BF jeans. I hadn't been wearing a belt with mine- maybe thats why I always feel they're not quite right.... and I suppose the slouchiness around the hips and butt might not be pleasing my eyes either. Any suggestions for the kind of support act that works well with slouchy Bf jeans?

Style Fan, those APC jeans look gorgeous, and perfect for your style! did you decide against the new dark denim Kamm Pants?

FWIW, I have a really hard time with modern boyfriend fits. To get the legs to look properly loose, I usually end up with a falling-down huge waist, a really square/blocky fit through the hips, or just pants that sit uncomfortably low (surgical scar on my abdomen means I don't want to wear a low rise, especially not belted -- way too uncomfortable). I do like a loose leg, not a skinny leg, but don't always want to wear wide-legs. My solution has been to shop vintage. Levi's 501s in particular work really well for me. You get a straight leg but tailored hips and waist, not sloppy. With a bit of hunting at thrift and consignment stores (and sometimes even eBay, now that I have a better sense of sizing), I find jeans for $10 - $50 that fit great without needing any additional alteration. YMMV, of course, but for my body and preferences that's been the best way to get a boyfriend-ish look. You might also search out models called "Mom Jeans" which are usually higher-waisted with a looser but still somewhat tapered leg. The Madewell Perfect Summer Jeans might also be worth a try.

La Ped, thanks for the suggestions. I will check out the Madewell ones. There is a Madewell near here. Mom jeans is a good idea. Time to move on from BF jeans.
I have not ruled out the Jesse Kamm jeans. I am waiting for Seasons and Salt to do her review. I would like a lighter weight denim than the tobacco canvas pants. I like the look of the Seaside Pants. Of course, my size is gone now.

Style Fan, not wearing jeans these days but loved the feedback about the t shirts!

I wear Three Dots long sleeve crews under sweaters all winter but in warmer weather I like a more open neckline. It can be hard to find better quality versions with long sleeves so I'm definitely checking into these.

Oh, what a pity about the BF jeans. May be Mom jeans are a good call, but I do like the Seaside jeans. I will be interested to see what Angie thinks about the thigh area with them, as I think I would think about them too.

Isabel, I am a big fan of Three Dots T-shirts. I have quite a few of the three-quarter T-Shirts. The Caslon ones are not as thick and much longer in the torso than the Three Dots. I may order a brown one.
Jane, I am okay about the BF jeans. I have a pair that I like. I love the Seaside jeans. Sizing is an issue. They are French so maybe I should size up. The pocket on the thigh concerns me. May not be a great look on me.

Lisa, thank you for the links. There are some great looking jeans on her blog. The Madewell boyjeans are really cute and so are the Madewell perfect summer jean. I need to think about what direction my jean style is going.

I have one pair of girlfriend jeans -- they are Boden and look somewhat like a relaxed skinny on me. I tried the Gap Girlfriends that many rave about, and they were sausage casing on my calves, even when I sized up.

Another one that's on my list to try: the Agolde Jamies. Very similar look to the Madewell Summer Jeans. I think Greyscale has a pair in black.

Style Fan, you should absolutley milk the high-rise fitted wide crops jeans look. Try the Seasides, and these too (pocket placement looks quite flattering).
