After a long shopping drought where everything I saw was either too teenage or two dowdy, I finally found some casual tops that feel right for me. As background, I’ve recently completed a massive post-retirement closet clean out that resulted in 7 trash bags of donated clothes, stacks and stacks and stacks to consignment, and 20+ pairs of shoes out the door. Phew. When the dust settled, I saw that I needed casual tops suitable for most everything I do. After lots of searching and trying, this is what I’ve found so far. Oh, as an aside my Arizona climate is hot — and I prefer to cover my upper arms when possible, so you’ll notice these all provide that coverage.

This Banana Republic Factory top is a gem. Fabric is surprisingly comfy but does not wrinkle because it’s already crinkly. It’s not oversized, but also does not cling. I enjoy the scoop back and subtly fluttery sleeves. And the price can’t be beat. Wore it once and got compliments from my husband and girlfriends. I got this periwinkle blue color. I’d say it’s TTS.

The lace-up detail on this Banana Republic tee caught my eye. I also like the fact that it’s 100% cotton without modal or stretch of any kind, as those usually cling to me in an unflattering way. For the price, the Supima cotton BR touts on its website is surprisingly thin, so be aware, though for some this could be considered a plus in summer. Also, the shoulders are dropped, which I didn’t realize when I ordered—not my favorite. It runs big and is rather boxy, but is not overwhelming. Might wear it tucked. It was really wrinkly right out of the packaging, so we will see how it launders. After much consideration, I’m keeping. Interesting 100% cotton tees with longer short sleeves are just so hard to find.

Love this BR linen elbow-sleeve tee. It’s not rough or scratchy like some linen and it skims but does not cling. My tee is blue, but much richer than the color shown here. In fact, the color is gorgeous and has a very slight sheen. I can’t remember if this blue shown is the one I ordered or not, but I can check if you are interested. TTS.

This Everlane tee is very casual, but I like the V neck, relaxed fit and longer sleeves. It’s perfect for a quick errand or hang-out day at the house. Runs TTS or possibly a tad large. No cling. Be aware of the white stitching on the back, as this may be an acquired taste. Some colors are discounted.

Another BR find, this square neck tee was my husband’s favorite. The inky blue color is gorgeous and the sleeve length is great. Fabric is slightly ribbed, which I could not tell from the website. It is not a tee that skims like the others and is rather form fitting and stretchy, which I usually shy away from. I think sizing up might not be a bad idea if you can. Love the neckline, but might have returned if not for my husband’s request that I keep it.

Happy shopping, my YLF friends.
