A Story of Style Evolution Thanks to YLF
Hi everyone, I'm returning after an absence of just about three years, during which I dabbled with a gemstone hobby and fell madly in love with handbags. Mostly I was too busy being a SAHM to read the forum, but that doesn't mean I wasn't learning from YLF!
When I first joined, I was a recent transplant from warm and rainy Vancouver to blistering hot/cold Montreal and a new mum. I described my style as "Tropical Stepford Wife" and I had a closet full of dresses and prints, half of which didn't fit anymore and weren't practical for a mum. I had yet to learn the magic of toppers and had very few jackets and coats.
I remember owning only two short winter jackets and asking you all for permission to buy a puffer coat, and everyone said "What are you waiting for? Do it before you freeze to death!" Well, now I have 4 puffer coats: two thigh length in black and olive and two knee-length in brown and black, in addition to two wool coats, two pea coats, a khaki utility parka, two rain trenches and almost every type of light topper. Gosh, I've come a long way!
In terms of clothes, I purged a lot of sheath dresses, orphan skirts and most of my heels, fully embracing my casual lifestyle. I also found myself turning away from my previous love of graphic prints and gravitating towards neutral colors, particularly black, grey and navy (admittedly as those clothes don't stain easily!) but, Angie, don't worry as I use colorful bags to break up the monotony!
I'm really happy with my style evolution journey because I feel like I now have a smaller but more varied wardrobe to work with (although my toppers are taking up a whole wardrobe by themselves). Angie, I have also really admired seeing your recent style evolution from tomboy to romantic styles, all while being very consistent to who you are. Happy belated 10th anniversary to YLF and for all the work you and Greg do!
And also, Happy Thanksgiving to all fellow Canadians.
I look forward to taking part in the WIWs and Style Challenges! ~peacechick
