Return Prada sandals?

I bought these beautiful sandals that I wanted for a while. When I got them in the mail, I became upset when I found out they are made in China and not Italy. And to top it all off, there's some wear on the heel, which is the last thing you want to see on $400 sandals.

So here are my questions; is this generally acceptable or was I expecting too much? I don't mind paying for quality but this time I feel ripped off! I'm back to looking for the perfect gold sandals that are leather, simple thongs, and high-end. Any suggestions?? (Tory Burch is out of the question). Thank you!!

You are not happy. I would return them and keep looking. You will never feel good wearing these, and you should feel good.

I do know a lot of deisgners, even higher end ones, now have their goods manufactured in China.

Thistle has a point with many designer goods being manufactured in the Far East nowadays. Only you can decide if you are OK with that or not. But if the sandals aren't in perfect condition, I wouldn't be happy either. That alone is reason enough to return them, I think.

Everyone manufactures in China. China has so much practice in comparison to Italy, I have to wonder how good Italy can really be compared to China. But, of course, it all depends on who and how. You have to determine quality from the item itself these days. However, they're probably cheating the workers in China.

For $400, the shoe should be pristine or discounted. Those are very delicately styled sandals, I'll give you that, and I own Prada shoes. But I don't know if there's $400 worth of design, material and manufacturing in them.

However, sandals are not something I'd spend a lot on anyways. To me, they're throw away vacation shoes.

I would return them because they aren't in pristine condition. What Thistle and Inge says, too.

I've decided to return them. I've never spent this much on sandals either, Rachylou. Last summer I had a similar (and much cheaper) pair that I wore down to the ground because they went with everything. So I decided to splurge on something that was nicer and would last a long time. Sadly, these are not it.

Good decision! I can see why you bought the sandals in the first place, though; they are gorgeous, classic, and I can imagine that you'd wear them for years. But when you spend that much, you want them to be all that you'd hoped for and maybe more, not less!

I vote return. I believe they should be pristine and am also surprised that they were made in China.

I know I for one do view items as less quality coming out of China. Maybe that is because I have been dealing with quality issues from our China plant and Chinese suppliers for years.

I have yet to splurge on a Kate Spade bag once I learned they were all made in China. It takes away somehow. And as the article suggests, brands are now subject to sales. Kate Spade bags can be found on the same sales as any other brand.

Good article. I agree with luxury expert Carol Brodie. However, the other person's quote "The move away from Europe won't deter people from continuing to buy luxury labels". NOT TRUE for a lot of people. I remember when Coach used to make their bags in Italy, when that stopped, well......I stopped buying because it longer felt exclusive, every other woman on the street started to have one and fakes are now everywhere. I'm afraid that will be Prada's fate.

Well, I tell you, I don't think these - or any luxury sandal - would really last much longer with a lot of wear. A delicate shoe is a delicate shoe. I mean, they won't just fall apart like a really cheap shoe, but there are lots of inexpensive shoes made that don't fall apart like that.

I like the term "masstige" from the article. But I shouldn't get started. Suffice it to say I think there's a big difference between luxury and designer. The finest things don't always look that good and so forth...
