Request for Help Choosing a Color: Sevilla Smiths

Ever since I saw Jenn's Sandy flats, I've been stalking the Sevilla Smith Etsy shop. I'm still not 100% committed to buying, but I'm super tempted... I just can't choose a color. While they're very reasonably priced considering they're handmade, they'd be the most expensive shoes I've ever bought, so I'd like something that would work with a range of outfits and colors (my go-to colors are grey, black, teal, purple, olive green, and occasionally red or oxblood). Help? Please?

I'm torn between:

1. Undyed with hand-painted black brush stroke
I love the elegant line of the brush stroke.

2. Olive
Olive is one of my favorite colors, and should be able to play as a versatile neutral, right? I have red hair, and I like the contrast with olive greens.

3. Waxy antique brown
With the aforementioned red hair, reddish-brown shoes can bookend nicely.

I vote the last one that best bookends your hair. An expensive shoe should be something you can wear with many outfits.

I can see why you are torn, they are all gorgeous. Visually my favourite is the undyed with hand-painted black brush stroke, I love the two tone effect of this one. However, I honestly think that you can't go wrong with any of these. Given your hair colour I do think the waxy antique brown would be the most versatile and would go with anything (but I sort of think the other two are also super versatile).

I kind of think you should stick to #2 or #3. I totally agree with Bijou that #1 is super interesting with the brush stroke and would look great with solids, but if you want versatility you should probably stick with one of the other two.

That said, the style is so great, and I don't see how you could make a bad decision here. It's going to feel amazing the first time you wear them out!

My vote is the last one which would bookend your hair. If you have green in your eyes (you call them hazel) then the olive ones would work to bookend as well. The first ones are gorgeous but I don't think they would be as versatile.
I also think that the waxy antique brown or olive would look great with your wardrobe colours. They are gorgeous shoes.

I think any of these would be really versatile, so base the decision on your wardrobe. One advantage I see from the brush stroke ones is that they'll match both black and brown in pretty much any shade. If you're more comfortable with an accessory match, that's a win.

All three are really good choices. I used to have brown hair and wore a lot of brown shoes. It looked great with olive and other earth tones I wore. The olive is great especially with hazel eyes. The first one I think would be best in an outfit with no pattern, so it could shine. If your wardrobe is mostly solids, then there you have it. I'd probably choose the olive, because that color is so hard to find in shoes.

I lean towards the olive as well, but am biased as I wear a lot of it and would like olive shoes. Love the brown/tan as well but feel might get less wear with black clothing?

Bijou and zk, The undyed with the brush stroke is visually my favorite, too... it's just such a striking, graphic work of art. But the other two may be easier to blend with other pieces.

Style Fan, I do have mostly olive eyes, so that's a good point that it would still be bookending (just more subtle than mirroring the hair color).

JAileen and Jenni NZ, I do wear mostly solids, but like you two, I'm starting to lean toward the olive (after initially leaning heavily toward the brush stroke). I wear a lot of black and cool gray, and I think olive might play better with those.

I'll keep thinking and see if I shift again, but all the comments have definitely helped focus my thinking (instead of just, "Oooh, they're all so pretty!", which while true, wasn't helping).

I vote for bookending your hair. I think that color will be a lot more versatile.

Interesting shies!
The firdg ines are even more " statement shies" so be aware of that. They'll go with a
fair amount but will demand more. There will be the multiple colors in the shoes PLUS the additional skin color showing.
I look at skin tones and not just bookending. Which would look best on Your feet( legs) ? For example, some shoe colors look kinda dead on me while others seem to " fit" better. The brushstroke has the toffee- camel all around the top. Is that a good color on your feet?
I'm partial to the russet because it has a classy leather richness that I think will never go out of favor and lets the shoe style speak for itself. But I can fall into being too risk- averse, also, and miss some fun fashion statements.

What color shoes function now as your go-tos, especially with your favorite outfits? Or if the colors aren't ones you currently have, do you prefer lighter / darker, or more of a statement / more of a neutral? The best predictor to me for new shoes are my current favorites . . .

The brush stroke is gorgeous but also very bold. The red brown are a safe choice and would make a lovely book-ending effect. When I look at your WIW's though, I think the olive ones would very much suit your style: refined, sophisticated and slightly out of the ordinary. They would be my choice for you.

I'm biased. It's one of my favorite neutrals, and how often do you come across a great pair of olive shoes? I will qualify, though: only if it's an olive that goes nicely with the shades of olive that you actually wear. Otherwise, I'd get the cognac color to sort of bookend with your hair. The natural ones are very pretty, but so distinctive that they are really more of a statement shoe, and you might find them more limiting.

If I had your colours, I would definitely go for #1. They really look unique and will add pizzazz to any outfit. AND, due to their gorgeous mix of neutrals, they can easily be worn with many other colours. (If you are after a pair of solid olive or brown shoes, there will be numerous other, less expensive, solutions.)

Argh, I had a reply written to everyone and then accidentally switched to a different page and lost it! Hmph. Again, thank you all for the wisdom. Considering that there are some strong reasons stated and votes cast for all three, I'm thinking I really can't go wrong!

approprio, thank you! I take "refined, sophisticated and slightly out of the ordinary" as a wonderful compliment, and it echoes a revelation I had recently about things that I'm drawn to. The things I love most don't grab attention immediately, but have some subtle quirk or edge when you look closer. My car is a deep purple... looks black 99% of the time, unless you catch it in direct sunlight. My favorite necklace is a little brass flower... pretty but unremarkable unless you notice it's made out of a 9mm shell casing.

Firecracker, haha! Hello, fellow olive lover! As much as I love olive, it's feeling underrepresented in my wardrobe these days, so those shoes wouldn't have much to compete with (and sometimes multiple shades of green play nicely together even when they don't match). Hm........

1 or 3. It's a very unusual style so if you want to maximize the impact go with number 1. If you want the structure of the shoe to be the focus, go with the brown.
I think it's more about adding a super interesting touch to SOME of your outfits rather than all.
