Repost: Need a workhorse dress!

Hello! I'm needing a grey or black sheath style dress with preferably short or 3/4 sleeves to wear to death this fall and winter! I love things that I can wash on gentle cycle (no dry cleaning!) and v-neck, crew neck, boat neck, all of that is fine. Just no turtleneck please.

If anyone comes across what they would consider a good workhorse day dress to pair with anything and everything please let me know!

ps. I had a wonderful black 3/4 sleeve mock wrap style maternity dress from Old navy that I wore to death last year and ironically I cannot find a non-maternity style that will work so hard for me!

I did see your earlier post, but I am just no help here because every black dress I own must go to the cleaners.

Did you try Express? Gap? AT loft?

Velvetychocolate- I like that one but I think the material would show too many of my flaws LOL! The ON one had a thicker material...it was not ponte (which I love!) but it was a very heavy polyester, skimming over the body. I fear that BR one will cling to all the *wrong* places on me. But that is the direction I would like to be heading so thank you much!

I like that one that Kristen is comparing to a recent Marshall's purchase - she got it at the NAS sale - it's a heavier brown ponte (I think) style with really neat sleeves. Did you see that post? It would be "Dress Deathmatch" - the second post. It looks like a thicker material and so on - but no, it's not grey or black.

I did look - and I like! And the price isn't too bad at all. Hmmmm....I'm also thinking to Marshalls I shall go. Thank you for the suggestions. Surely something will pop up in my search.

The Donna Morgan from Nordstroms is a great choice. I also found a ton of nice dresses at Macys; I deliberately didn't look closely at grey sheaths because I have one too many already LOL, but I am sure there would be a few. They had some nice ponte dresses I liked in other colors.

I think the heavier knit/ponte dresses will be arriving in stores in the coming weeks; the saleswoman at BR told me their new stuff was coming the week after next, and there would be lots of dresses. So sit tight if you have to.

VC, uh-oh that is less cheaper than what I paid for at the NAS. Ans its been so freaking hot I haven't even had a chance to wear it yet. Hmpf.

On another note, I had posted about a wrap dress I sighted on American Apparel's website that seems quite popular. The reviewers all say it is a thicker cotton that doesn't cling. I decided not to go for it as I was told here that their quality is hit or miss and I don't have a store near by to go check it out. Their return polices aren't that great. If you do have a store, give it a go and see what you think.
