Removing Red Dye?

As I mentioned in the NAS section, the dye on my new red scuba moto rubbed off onto my white jeans and what's worse, my cream leather shoulder bag. Saddle soap didn't do a thing. Does saddle soap get old and become ineffective? This is my favorite bag and probably the nicest one I own since it is leather in my sea of pleather ones.

Suggestions please.

My gut response would be to take it to a leather repair shop. They may have something that would be a better remover than saddle soap. If you don't want to go that route, could you try some shoe polish over the stain to even it out?

Color catcher might work on your jeans. Don’t put them in the dryer or the dye might set. As for your bag, I’m not sure. I’ve use Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner for leather car seats, but that was for dirt rather than dye. With my old Coach bags I’ve never used saddle soap, instead I use Dawn dish soap. I wonder if something like Shout spray might work? After using any cleaner, you need to rinse well, and condition afterwards, so the leather doesn’t get stiff. It could even crack.

ETA: Don’t use shoe polish on your bag. It can rub off on your clothes!

I know that a white technical eraser ( like Staedtler). was recommended to me to get marks off my white leather jacket. By Danier, who would know. Don’t know if that works for dye, but it can’t hurt.

I got navy dye that transferred from a denim jacket onto a white linen top earlier this year, in the armpits. This is what I did (found the idea online):

Made a solution with 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of dish detergent, and 2 cups warm water. I used a white cloth and dabbed the solution on the stain, and blotted it with a dry cloth over and over. It got lighter and lighter. Then I figured what the heck, and stuck the whole top part of the top in the bowl and let it soak for a while. Then a wash in cold water, and voila!

I had mystery red stains on white jeans last week. A spray of Oxidol took it out even without washing, after soaking the stained area over night in plain cool water.
On your bag, you might try wet Magic Eraser or a little baking soda rubbed gently on the stained area. I am sorry that happened to your cute bag.
Good old cheap hair spray can remove lots of things like permanent marker. As a desparate measure, it is worth a try. First you might blot rather than rub the area. So as not to remove the white too.

I was thinking a magic eraser might work. I use them on my white leather sneakers to remove marks.

For the leather bag I would try a solution of one part Woolite to 5 parts distilled water. Spray on and agitate gently with a toothbrush. Use the Woolite for top loading machines, not HE. The chemicals are different. This is what Lexus recommends for getting blue jean dye transfer off leather car seats.

I had a similar issue with a white leather bag and tried nail polish remover. It removed the stain but also took the white colour out of my bag. So this is one thing to NOT try.

Re dye on bag: the Staedler eraser sounds good. Magic eraser is too abrasive, IMO. It might take off the color or shine. I also thought a paste of Bon Ami cleanser might work. Something that scrubs without scratching.
