Removing Grease Stains on Leather

Today I spilled grease on my shoes while cooking. They are grey leather Birkenstock clogs I wear around the house. I think they are an oiled leather....is there anyway to get the stains out? Even though I don't leave the house in these, I am picky about wearing stained items and these were expensive

I tried Dawn dish detergent but it didn't work at all...

Well, for fabrics sprinkling cornstarch and letting it sit for a while before brushing it off sometimes works. You can try it, I don't think it'll hurt the leather.

ETA: You can use baby powder too.

Trying it now Diana. It looks like the stains have gripped the cornstarch, if you know what I mean. I will report back...thank you.

Ditto what Diana said. It may take several applications to get it all out, so be patient. I used corn starch to get an oil stain (from cooking too!) out of my taupe suede booties, but it took three or four applications for it to come out enough to not be noticeable.

Well, I tried the cornstarch. I left it on or reapplied it for about 48 hours, and while it dulled the stains a bit, they are still visible. I may keep trying it, at least until I can find a good leather cleaner after the holidays. I have been meaning to get one anyway.
