Remixing Formal pieces for upcoming Cruise...

There are 3 formal nights on our upcoming cruise and I'm trying to come up with one more formal outfit without having to buy something new.

I have had this little beaded top (Ann Taylor) for years. I used to wear it with silver silk ankle pants ages ago and have hung onto to it as I love it so. I paired it with this silk/bubble hem type Ralph Lauren skirt.

What do you gals think? I would probably buy a different cami for underneath, but used this one for the time being....is this frumpy?

Which shoes: Black in 3-4, Gold on the right nude on the left in 5 and 6...

That's a beautiful top! I think it TOTALLY works with the skirt, and it helps that the top is short, so it doesn't *mash* the gathers of the skirt. The nude slingbacks are my favorite with this. YAY for not having to buy any more formal wear. I think you can even get away with wearing this cami, too.

YAY! Thanks Claire, That means alot coming from the queen of remixing! These two pieces have been very lonely orphans, I just haven't been able to part with either one (bad girl for not following the rules).

thanks Midwest Girl and CJH...I rather like the gold best, too, but they are so very uncomfortable..my husband tried to throw them in the garbage yesterday and I rescued them!

I was wondering about jewelry, with the neckline I was thinking maybe just earrings, I don't really have anything that would work with this dress.

Nude shoes look pretty - sparkly drop earrings and a sparkly bracelet?

The great thing about "formal wear" like this is that it stays current for a long time = no worries about closet purging!

Great idea, Christieanne. Sparkly drop earrings and bracelet sounds perfect. I have been a bit hasty in the past, purging and end up really missing some classic quality pieces I parted ways with. I think I will think long and hard in the future about some of the super classics.

Ooh, a cruise! How fun! I like this outfit and think it will work well for a formal night. I prefer the gold shoes with it but since you say they are so uncomfortable, I would recommend the nude, more comfortable shoes. I think sparkly earrings and maybe a bracelet would be the perfect finishing touches.

Beautiful outfit, I think that the top and the skirt work great together. I also like the nude sandals the best. Some other accessories ideas: pearls, red clutch, any bright color clutch really.

Love it! I like the gold shoes best, but if they are uncomfortable, both of the other shoe options are fantastic too!

Maybe a long knotted or tassel necklace would work here? I would do something gold, but pearls would also work!

Thanks, Sara, Tanya, Angie and Diana. I think I will probably wear the nude heel because I will have to walk a fair amount. I'll be on the lookout for some dangly sparkles for my ears and wrist. Still not sure if I should be looking for black sparkly, gold or silver sparkly...hmmmm

Carole, that's such a gorgeous top, I'm very glad you didn't throw it out in a purge! And that skirt too is super versatile-looking. So delightful that they found each other!

You look gorgeous, and as Claire said, even the camisole is perfectly acceptable to my eyes. Personally, I prefer the nude flats over the others, so that the focus is up at your face and on the lovely lacey top. Almost any colour of sparkly earrings should be great. And a really restrained tassel or long necklace, like Diana suggests, could really help bring the eye to both your face and the top again.

Thanks, Mandidipam. I appreciate your kind words and feel rather proud that I was able to rescue these two pieces and do something with them after all these years. I was hoping to find a cami with a built in bra to wear with the top,but that might not work well enough to support "the girls" anyway.

I think this outfit would look great with a crinoline!:) But since you can't take a crinoline on your cruise with you, I know I am not being helpful!:)

Bella, I had no idea what a crinoline was, had to google that, great idea and I can see how that would help the skirt keep a little shape. Hmmm where does one find a crinoline?

You can also search for "black crinoline" on ebay. I think they are fairly standard, so size should not be an issue, but the length is.
