Reminiscing about the 70s...

Although 70s is not my style, I was very much a child of the decade, and Anna's rainbow Technicas brought back a host of other fashion-related memories!

Oh, the first round of 'designer' jeans. Sergio Valente's, Jordache, Chermin de Fer.
I remember everything being oddly muted earth tones. Avocado green, icky brown and muddy orange are the colors of my childhood. That includes the shag rugs and appliances in many of our homes.
I remember there seemed to be no hair products beyond Aqua Net. Oh, and Sun In if you wanted clown orange hair (yep- did that!)

Ditto jeans, Chemin de Fer and Member's Only. Earth shoes, I think. I just remember the wavy bottoms (on the shoes.) Knee high socks with stripes, Nike Cortez, dolphin running shorts too. Aah, the memories!

I went to see a band in downtown Los Angeles a few weeks ago and there was grown woman doused in Love's Baby Soft. I didn't even know you could still get it! It was giving me flashbacks to the roller rink.

I fondly remember all of those things. Yes, the colors were earth tones. Bright colors were introduced in the '80s, when color analysis came on the scene. Interesting that nobody mentioned painter pants. I had a pair of white ones. I also wore jeans that were patched denim (various colors of blue denim patched together to look like a quilt or something). Hang Ten shirts must have been national. I had them, and I lived in FL. And OMG those awful interior decorating colors. How could I ever forget that avocado green and harvest gold combination?

- I had a rainbow stretchy belt, AND rainbow soled flip-flops.
- I was terribly excited when my mom let me buy a "disco dress" in 8th grade to wear to a school dance. With platform sandals
- Candies shoes in the late 70s -- remember those? Wood platform soles and high heeled open-toed shoes, with colorful uppers.
- Yep, I had painter pants too.
- Did the comb in the back pocket thing
- Tried desperately to feather my hair a la Farrah Fawcett but my curls were too out of control so it just ended up frizzy
- Oh yeah! Hang Ten and all that surfer style was big around my area even into the early 80s -- I wore the heck out of my OP purple palm tree shorts.
- Mood rings
- the rise of Calvin Klein jeans
- In the early 70s, the ruckus caused by my teenage sister's insanely short skirts and shorts (she was 10 years older than me)

Oh yeah, the rainbow-soled flip flips! I had those... and the Candies shoes... and the platform sandals (which would be in style today if I still had them; things come back around, don't they?), and feathered hair--though I ended up getting a wedge cut, followed by a perm. I hated that perm and couldn't wait for it to grow out. Back to feathered bangs after the perm grew out, lol. Did anyone else have a sterling silver spoon ring? Those were all the rage in FL.

I also remember sucking on cinnamon-coated toothpicks.

My mom made me a three-tired skirt and matching peasant blouse, which I wore with knee-high boots. Nice boho look goin' on with that outfit.

In 1979, she also made me a pair of black skinny pants like the ones worn by Olivia Newton John in the movie "Grease" and a matching fitted v-neck peplum vest. Boy did I look good in that outfit! I wore it with a fitted collared button-up shirt underneath the vest and a pair of sexy black sandals, of course!

SO cracking up! Remember "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" shampoo? And "Body on Tap"? I brought that to overnight camp!

One of my favorite outifts from the 70s was a skirt like this one that my mom made me. The panels were different colors of pastel gingham checks - pink, yellow, and blue. And she made me that wrap halter top in the same colors. I loved that outfit!

She also made me the halter wrap dress in photo 3 (short version) and I wore that thing until it fell apart!

I had Love's Baby Soft and Love's Fresh Lemon - every day I wore one or the other
My Dorothy Hamill hair cut (remember the figure skater?)
Definitely wore the painter pants, had a mood ring, listened to Bay City Rollers, had a poster of Scott Baio in my bedroom and had a soft spot for "smock tops".

Ah! Smock tops!! My mom made me this one is a bunch of different fabrics! Note the stylish contrasting patch pockets!

I had a poster of Leif Garrett up in my room! I remember roller skating, Funky Town (in addition to other disco tunes), Saturday Night Fever. And let's not forget that amidst all the hippie vibes, there was a year when EVERYTHING was red, white and blue (the bicentennial)! But honestly, while I remember the 70's, I came of age in the 80's, so Duran Duran, neon colours, high-waisted jeans, denim bib overalls, peg-legged jeans and bright socks made a bigger impact on me.

Echo, me too, really. Kid and early teen in the 70s, high school in the 80s. Neon shirts, rubber bracelets, all that Madonna and Michael Jackson fashion - YIPES! Duran Duran was my first concert - I still have piles of memorabilia like Japanese fan mags and special edition LPs.

I have vague notions about Erik Estrada and roller skates... and Coppertone and long dresses and candy cigarettes (so not PC, lol)... Lawrence Welk, Carol Burnett, Love Boat, Three's Company and Fantasy Island... and Donny & Marie, Sony & Cher, Lily Tomlin's Ernestine... and that weird show Love Amercan Style... and getting real pipe cleaners for art projects at a real Five & Dime... (btw, I can't find a cent sign on this keyboard, which I believe used to exist on typewriters in the '70s)...
