Remembrance Day/Veterans Day outfits

Apparently I'm more into holiday themed wear than I thought. Black cords, burgundy turtle and black sweater coat for me today with a Vimy Ridge pin.

Are any others doing this?

Had a beautiful ceremony today here in the capital but we decided to stay home and watch it on tv as I'm exhausted and feeling the cold more. The rain didn't help. Really felt sorry for all the old vets out there.

Not dressing for it, but we are flying the flag. And here's a bonus shot of my Marine and his buddies at the Marine Corps Ball in Japan a few days ago (he's third from the left)!

I wasn't out today, but I dressed up on Friday when we had our Remembrance Day assemblies at school. I personally choose to wear an all-black outfit with a poppy whenever we honor Remembrance Day at school (on the 11th or beforehand), as do many other teachers. No one consciously organizes it but it is something that seems to happen organically. I find it a very symbolic expression of respect for all of those who have served and who continue to serve.

I had originally planned grey and black, but found a stain on the grey top this morning, but switched to burgundy. Grey coat and poppy, of course.

We had a rather moving ceremony at church this morning, including a line-up of vets and current military personnel, prayers for one man in the hospital, and another just shipped out to Afghanistan.

And yes, muted colours, with the possible exception of red, do seem a more respectful way to dress in public on this day, for sure.

How do you ladies not lose your poppies? My poor husband has had to replace mine numerous times this year as usual. I was going to put a little canada pin in the centre but fooling with the poppy can have dire consequences here.
MK do you usually fly the flag or was it only for today? Loved the picture of your marine and his buddies.
Sorry to hear that the tiredness turned to being ill Suz, take care. You are in the perfect place for the gun salutes and parades!

Red Fridays are very popular here in this end of our town. Hubby, son and I almost always wear a red shirt. I most love a really old one of our son's that reads
Courage is being afraid but doing it anyway... It then has support the troops below it.

Freckles, we generally fly the flag only on holidays. We'll fly it again tomorrow because it's the legal holiday here.

I haven't done Red Fridays up until now, but I think I will have to start. My Marine isn't technically deployed but I certainly want to support those who are!

My subtle homage was a cobalt dress with black/white shoes and scarf, and bright red lipstick. We went to see a performance of my dad's jazz group at a cafe where they had a Veteran's Day ceremony just beforehand.
