I have been really trying to follow PPP in the past year, for new purchases and re-mixing, since I think that is a key to my enjoying my wardrobe more.

But…I…have…LAPSES.

The other day while shopping—returning some shoes, actually, which were not PPP—I looked at some cashmere sweaters. Came in a luscious color for me and a good neutral color. Had a perfect, kinda high V-neck, which I like, so as to not have yet another item that requires a tank top under. Nicely fitted through lower torso. But, it was baggy under the arms, more so than you’d expect for the rest of the sizing. But…. the color… and the rest of it… and the price was good….Maybe I could just get the great-color one, since I’d not found that color before. I was already rationalizing my trip to check-out.

Then, like a drug addict who still has a job and family and some grip on reality and who is looking for a lifeline, I went out to the BIG mirror. Flagged down a saleslady. Errr—do you think this sweater is kinda baggy here, or is it just…roomy?

She looks. She pronounces, “It’s cut weird!” (Bless her for her wording!). She grabs a giant fistful of cashmere between my shoulder blades (which I can’t see too well in the mirror) like I’m a wayward kitten. “There’s all this back here too! ---It’s not for you. I'm sorry; I could lie to you, but I won’t.”

I breathe the air of freedom. I place sweaters back on shelf.

If you wait, it will come.
