Remedial question: ankle length versus cropped.

Hi all
I apologize if this is a repeat topic but I'm confused. At Banana Republic the other day I tried on a pair of pants. They hit about half an inch above the top of my oxfords showing a small bit of skin. I thought they should be shorter--the sales associate said they were good or maybe should be a hair longer.. Is there a length of pant that is ankle but not cropped?

I personally think the PPP for crops depends on the style of crop, the footwear, the leg shape/ length of the person wearing, and whether or not the waist is high on the pant and whether the person tucks.

For myself, weirdly, a slightly longer crop (about 2 to 3 inches above the ankle) can be a sweet spot (vs. the 4 to 6 than Angie mentions) -- this is because my calves are proportionately shorter, I suspect.

For a true ankle pant, I like it to hit on or just above the ankle bone.

And, weirdly, I actually prefer ankle length or cropped skinnies to full length (whatever that means with a skinny).

I very often see the colors, fits and even styles that I'm wearing in menswear rather than womens although I don't wear men's clothes. What your describing could also be kind of a retro womens pants length which I also like.

I would say "yes" to this, that right at the ankle with a fairly narrow ,untapered leg is fine with me.

I'm not fussy about pants length as long as it's flattering and looks deliberate. I'm having kind of a hard time appreciating the cropped flare length.

Thank you for those links Suz. The first one on ankle length was really eye opening, and I am going to make both favorites.
Somehow I had always thought that ankle=cropped.
Isabel - I too gravitate toward menswear styles, although my style is pretty darn feminine.

Cropped Pants = 2 to 6 inches ABOVE the ankle bone. An umbrella term for any length shorter than regular length.

Ankle Pants = 2 inches ABOVE the ankle bone. A type of cropped pant.

Regular Length Pants = COVER the ankle. Their length varies on the style and who you ask. I think they look better looooonnnnng.

Ah....thank you, Angie. Then I guess I prefer ankle pants for myself (2 inches above the ankle bone). Up to 4 for cropped. If I go 6, I'm halfway to my knee!
