OK, so Vix and Suz's discussion about finding your "shadow" fashion side really piqued my interest. I'd been feeling the urge to get in touch with my inner edgy side when they suggested the topic, so I decided to try out a new look. This is WAAAAY out of my comfort zone: a black leather jacket and black moto boots, but I'm feeling sort of good in this look, too.

The boots are keepers, but I'm trying to decide on the DKNY jacket. The fit is pretty much perfect, but the sleeves are a little long (see detail in photo # 3 ). It definitely looks ok with the jeans, but I'm not sure about the proportions with the dress. I'm trying to simulate a tough + dressy look...not sure if it's working.

Also wondering if this is just a jacket for some fantasy life...or if I'll actually wear it.

Just kidding - you look AMAZING in that leather jacket. it is beyond fab with the jeans. I understand what you mean with the dress - it may be a tad long for wearing with a dress (not truly cropped) but I definitely think it can work with a dress and your snappy boots - just maybe not this dress. Let's see what the more expert crowd says...

LOVE! Omigosh, I adore it. Personally, I often like sleeves a little on the long side in jackets, but I am weird like that. The fit looks perfect to me. I'm really like the outfit in #1 - simple but such a cool vibe.

Keep! That's a gorgeous jacket! When I first decided to try a moto jacket, it was a black fabric version and it took weeks to get the courage to wear it out. You will adjust to the look. Just do it!
Wearing the black jacket with lighter boots or dresses as you have done de-toughens it a bit and may feel less costumish to you.

Keep! The fit is perfect and I think the sleeve length is not too long - they are slim so it works. I think you'll find that it's a lot more versatile than you think.

I have a feeling the problem may be the particular dress; it feels a bit light for this jacket. Know what I mean? I'll bet you can make this work with fall/winter dresses more easily.

And then you can get an ADDITIONAL leather jacket in a lighter colour for wearing with spring stuff! I'll bet Janet and Sveta could give you some good advice there.

Nancy, this looks like it fits you PERFECTLY. It's great fun to see you having fun and taking a risk. Unless you're worried that this is SO outside your comfort zone that the jacket will end up becoming a wardrobe orphan, I say GO FOR IT!

Love both the boots and the jacket. I think they make the sleeves long because bikers ride with bent elbows and the wrist needs to remain covered. These would be OK, I think. You always have the option to not wear the two leather items at the same time if you feel it's "too much." In the photos, you're wearing this look quite naturally.

Yay for tough and edgy! It looks great on you and you look super tall with the jeans! I think this jacket would be so versatile. I wear my black leather jacket all the time! Please keep!

Definitely keep the jacket. The propotions with the dress look just right to me especially with the boots. I've looked at quite a few of Rae's UWP looks and the jacket, dress & boots create that vibe.

What fun! I like this new look for you Nancylee, but I vote for splitting up the moto boots and blazer. I think you might soften the jacket with lighter (color or weight) footwear.

You look fantastic. The jacket really fits and flatters you. However the true test is whether you will wear it out the door (which I think you should)

I could not love this vibe any more! Are you surprised? I think the moto is a great fit on you. I need a more cropped fit because I don't have the figure for this shape of jacket, but on you it looks tough and sophisticated at this length. And the boots are beyond fab. YAY for you, Nancylee!

I think it looks FAB on you, even with the longer sleeve length. Do they have the same version in brown? Maybe you would feel more comfortable with less contrast?

I'm not even looking at the other responses first --- I LOVE it on you! Keep and wear! I think you will find it endlessly useful and versatile once you get used to it. And I like the sleeves a little long, actually.

I have been looking for a good moto jacket for ages and still don;e have one - and here you are with this tough beauty... Please keep!
I cannot imagine not to have occasions to wear it ..like twice a week at least when weather is right! Virtually it can be worn with everything -just go back and look at Angie's outfits with moto jacket for inspiration.The only thing is I would be careful to pair it with those moto boots - I would prefer to have only one tough item in my outfit so it does not look too costume-y.

I think I own this jacket! Does it have a bit of quilting in the pack and elbow pads? well, it is a DKNY and I too thought it might be a bit "tough" but I wear it all the time, it does give an edge to dresses, and I really like it with maxi skirts and little black pencil skirts. Plus it dresses up jeans. KEEP

Well, I guess it's unanimous! It's a keeper. I have to say I would NEVER have considered a black moto jacket before my YLF days. Such is the power of this forum. I've long admired the UWP/edgy looks that so many YLFers (like Una) love....and I just had to join it.

Thanks to all of you who reassured me about the sleeve length. Beth Ann, your point about the sleeves being longer to accommodate bent elbows really makes sense. I think the slightly longer sleeves add to the "toughness" of the look.

Suz, Shannon, Joy, Claire (and all who suggested trying it with other options), I will try the jacket with some other dresses--and also without the moto boots--to soften the look.

Suz, I actually already own a lovely cognac "scuba" style leather jacket. It has a more sleek and sophisticated vibe, so this moto jacket will be a nice complement/contrast.

The jacket is really nice. I think maybe it is a tad long with the dress, but not a deal-breaker. Looks versatile to me.

omg! You look like a rock star! You look absolutely fantastic in that jacket. Better make room in your comfort zone, because you definitely need to keep it!

I've found that wearing something new that's a departure from your usual style works well if the item (a) is flattering, and (b) makes you feel wonderful. It doesn't take very many wearings until your style expands to include the new item, and it starts to feel like "you".

I LOVE that jacket on you. Pop on a soft blouse or some pearls and a great pair of dark wash jeans and heels or wedges(maybe leopard) and VaVaVoom!

Wow - sexay! This definitely expresses your alternate persona. Very different from what I've seen on you - and it works! I'd keep and pop it on when you're in a fun and rebellious mood - and when you want to stun a few people in your life.
