Since I really didn't post much here during the past year, I thought I'd do a summary of what's changed lately. Overall I'm wearing the same things-jewel tones, modern classic silhouettes, moto or drape front jackets, bold necklaces or statement scarves, low wedges or pumps. Before the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and aside from a couple pieces around December, I shopped my closet in late 2016-early 2017 and focused on fundamentals.
However, I made a few changes that really refreshed how I felt about my style:
(Numbers are random and don't correspond exactly to pics.)
1. I let my hair grow out in 2016, longer than it's been in many years, and I LOVE it. I'm lucky to have a stylist who really knows how to cut layers in the right places in this long angled bob so that my fast-growing, fine hair has some shape.
2. With the length (and perhaps hair changes due to age?) came a new texture. I was in Southern California earlier this year and spent a beautiful afternoon on the beach with damp hair. Suddenly all these little cowlicks and bends in my locks started curling into waves. I've NEVER had that! So I started exploring the new texture. I'm still figuring it out; some days it works and others it doesn't, and it looks better/less messy when the natural waves are enhanced with a curling or flatiron. I'm still pretty clueless about how to do things with my hair (curling, updos, braids.) But I'm playing with what appears each day, and after a lifetime of limp locks, it's so fun to have options.
3. A couple months ago I asked my stylist to add some cherry red streaks in, basically red highlights on burgundy locks. I have her color my hair a couple times per year and color it on my own the rest of the time. I've been refreshing the bright red with a color enhancer/conditioner called Nevo at least once a week to keep the color vibrant.
4. Several months ago I picked up a new pair of specs, purple titanium cateyes with bright blue and gray accents at the temples. I LOVE them. I switch between these and my emerald specs (which I love but are very different to style, giving me some choices.) My titanium bronze/chartreuse specs are about 5 years old now, and I love them, but I'm finding that I prefer a wider/taller frame for working all day on multiple monitors.
5. After years of rarely to never wearing contacts due to severely dry/stinging eyes, I found a lens I can tolerate a few days per week (or when I want to wear contacts: Alcon Dailies Total 1. These lenses are MAGIC. I cannot feel them and I can wear them for 10-12 hours without pain, even when pollen/allergy levels are high. Amazing! Again, I just like to have options.
