red or black dr. marten boots?

hi all,

i'm still on the fence about these dr. marten boots. would black be more 'practical' than the red? i already own a pair of AK black knee-high boots (with gold trim), and they look more polished, definitely perfect for school and work.

i imagine wearing the dr. martens around campus when it gets rainy and/or much colder, and plan to don the 3/4 eggplant belted parka below (bought it last year):

which shoes would give me more mileage, or should i even consider them at all, given my coat color? i've been scouring for a brown pair, size 5UK (7 US) without luck...thanks again, sorry for being so wishy-washy! i'm too frugal sometimes *sigh*

Wow, what a difference a color makes. The red Docs are much more funky and noticeable than the black. I'm not sure about wearing the red boots with a purple jacket though. But if you like to push the envelope and really draw attention, then it would certainly be a fun expression of yourself!

I think it's difficult to pick between the black and red because it's like apples and oranges. Since you already own a pair of black boots, I'd say go for the red. You can always add a second pair of black or a pair of brown into your ensemble at a later date. The red is definitely more striking than the black.

I echo Nicole - I personally would go with the red since I consider it a basic color in my wardrobe and use it more often than black. However, it's probably not going to go with your jacket but it sure would be a statement piece.

I second both Nicole And Sihaya, I like the red and think that they are so much more interesting than the black ones. I personally would not wear red boots with purple coat, but I can definitely see the right person pulling it of and looking great while doing it!

Red is a nicer choice for the boots, but I do not prefer it with the eggplant puffer. I like purple and red together, but these styles clash.

Are you going to wear these boots with skirts? If so then you would not wear the long puffer jacket.

angie, what jackets work better with skirts and knee high boots? i have a couple knee-length trenches and a purple wool coat. what would be a good rainy weather coat, ideally with a hood? i carry an instrument around, and prefer not to hold an umbrella

Wow - I think those boots are terrific in red. How will they hold up in the rain? I'm not that familiar with Doc Martens but they are so cute!
