red highlights/streaks in my hair?

I'm going to the hairdresser in 3 hrs for just a trim but I am suddenly dying to add some colour to my hair. I'm thinking red - nothing too orangey, a slightly darker red?

Pic 1 is me right now. Pic 2 shows the sorta colour I want. I'm also inspired by Una's hair. . http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....air-photos. Pic 3 is Una's awesome colour. Hope you don't mind me using it Una!

I vote yay to the red. It's going to look great against your dark hair and your skin tone. Since your hair is on the shorter side, bold thick chunks could be fun!

I vote nay, only because your natural color is so gorgeous and looks great with your skintone! But I think red streaks will be fun if you decide to go for it.

I think it'll be awesome! My hair is dyed red too, although it's terribly faded right now; I don't go to the hairdresser nearly as often as I should. Keep in mind that red fades faster than almost any other hair color. I don't really mind when mine is faded, as it turns kinda more brown/cognac which I like too (not as fun as red). I also have the whole thing dyed, rather than highlights; I've had highlights in the past and they honestly just kind of got lost in my sea of hair. I am not willing to have it bleached before hand, which is one reason why I can't get a super bright red.

Wow, Kirti, I'm so flattered that you are considering my hair color! My hairdresser put in a solid panel of red across the top layer. Essentially that means that if I part my hair the other way, you can't see the red much at all. Or I can split it up by zig-zagging the part to create streaks.

In reality, I don't do anything creative, but I just wanted to let you know it's neither highlights nor streaks in my case. Also, my color is a startling flourescent cherry red when it's applied, though it comes out much more subtle. I actually panicked when I saw it before she washed it out and dried my hair. You might try something more subtle at first. Red fades very quickly too, so if you wash your hair daily it will not last as long, sadly.
