I'm not sure I like the shoes (they look too casual) but I love the rest of it! She wears it very well.

I think a dressier, modern shoe would have made it more fun. Those shoes seem too authentic to the period of the outfit which makes the whole thing look a bit costumie.

Well you've all pointed out exactly what I thought - the shoes just don't work with this! Personally, I absolutely ADORE this outfit and think she wears it incredibly well. I just wish she'd chosen a patent oxford or sleek black or navy boot.

Mind you, she probably had incredibly comfy feet compared to those in heels! And I give her an A+ for being different.

Agree about the shoes! I'm also not sure about the shirt, but it might have worked out just right if she had worn different shoes. I like the idea of it!

Oh, the hair, the hair!! She is so gorgeous, the hair spoils it.

Agree that she could have picked better shoes, as well, but the hair!!!!

Ya. The shoes are glaring in a multitude of ways. But I also don't like the suit on her, though I think a pair of pumps would have done wonders. I think the suit fits her body funny. I feel like I'm looking at her in a fun-house mirror.

I like it,but think it needs to betaken up a few notches to be red carpet appropriate. I think patent leather brogues and a shiny blouse/tie/necklace under the jacket would have been more appealing to me.

I totally love this. I like the way it is very very masculine yet her curves show through and her make up is feminine. I think this is a very cool look, but not one that is easy to pull off.

ETA: I like the shoes, I think they are great here. A more shiny patent or dressier shoe would have been more predictable. These shoes give the look a bit of downtown grunge (Sundance is supposed to be about Indie films); also, they bookend her hair nicely.

ETA x 2: Regarding this being red carpet appropriate, I think it works! This is Sundance, not the Golden Globes or Oscars. Sundance is not about glitz and glam, it's got a more casual vibe.

Denise - I totally agree that Sundance red carpet is very different than Oscar red carpet and I agree that it's appropriate. You make a good point about the shoes being unpredictable and bookending her hair - I didn't think of that.

I love the suit, like cocolion said, very masculine but clearly cut/altered for her curves. I don't like the shirt or the shoes.

I love everything about this! Love the stripey shirt with this! Would also have loved black shiny oxfords, but wouldn't have had the Sundance look...... Pumps would have been a bad fit for this outfit, in my opinion.

If there was ever perfectly fitted suit, this is the one. Plus the waistcoat - OMG! Pinstripes - OMG x2I gasped when I opened the photo. Pure perfection.

But the shoes? While I didn't think for a second they were not well planned ahead and while I totally see the points that show how/why they (maybe) work, to my eye they don't. They just spoil it all. And if they are supposed to reflect Sundance vibe, they in fact look too labored and are totally not effortless*.

To me, that's what I feel when I go too polished. I don't like to look like I really tried hard, or like my hair (in particular) took hours (or even more than ten minutes) to get "just so". To me, that looks too fussy or too prissy - it's just not me.

(Wishing that I could look effortless, but certainly don't have that down either)

I would keep the shoes, lose the shirt, and wash my hair.

However, I do like how the shoes bookend her dirty blonde hair. I agree the shoes sort of look out of place, but I feel that's because there's no other relaxed element up top. I think ditching the button up and going bare under the vest would fix it by having a dirty/sexy vibe to balance.

Amiable, I like those terms, but to my ear they sound easy, flowy and much better in the context of aspirational, but unsuccessful polish, ifyouknowwhatimean... the term for non-effortless I am after should sound different (I'm not sure I've expressed well what I mean, but this will haunt me for a few days now, that's for sure).

I have to agree 100% with Rae. I am not liking the outfit as a whole, and the shirt, shoes and hair all add elements of dischord to me that don't work together to make it the outfit it was probably planned to be.

Hmm. The more I think about it, I think I can see other people wearing this outfit right down to the shoes and looking more at ease. I'm thinking, as I see, it's not natural to Evan Rachel.

How come androgynous usually means to expect a gal in pants (suit). You don't see the guys in kilts called androgynous. Even the folks at qwear blog are mostly wearing men's clothes. However here are some runway looks for men in skirts.

I decided to answer without reading the other comments first.

I am a lover of the gangsta striped suit so love that aspect. I also like vests and the blue of the shirt. I find it is perhaps just a touch too masculine but really like it overall. I am not sure about the shoes though. I think they look a bit too army boot for a dressy suit..

Overall, I would probably give it a 9. Now to read the other comments.

I like it, but I prefer a little more juxtaposition -- perhaps a silky shirt, a partly open vest, feminine shoes, etc. I like the trends in menswear in any case, since I think it speaks to quality and careful tailoring, rather than disposable fashion.

ERW is such a striking and unique actress. There is a lot I like about this, the fit of the suit is brilliant on her. But I can't get past the shoes. Even something in the same vein but a bit sleeker would make this for me.
