Red and black geo dress - how to update for Spring?

This post is part WIW (today) and part looking for advice. Here is a new dress I've only worn once before, but wasn't posting or tracking at that time yet. The last time, I wore it with a simple black long sleeve tee underneath, just for the sleeves. I think I may have worn a bit more jewelry too.

This time, I opted for a black cardigan, buttoned halfway up to accentuate my waist. The dress has black piping in a very geometric design, but the cardigan covers some of it which I'm ok with. The fit is sligthly off, but I'm ok with that too - it looks better in motion. Hair is a bit Brigitte Bardot today, although the volume at the crown isn't as visible in this pic.

What do you think of this version? What are some other ways I could wear this dress? What will be a good way to transition it for spring/summer, or do you think it should remain only a fall/winter dress?

So the dress is sleeveless? I guess I don't see what the problem is with wearing it in the spring/summer if that's the case. It's cute and flattering on you.

Do you feel the black accent trim makes it winterish? I think that wearing without a topper, no hose or sheer ones, and perhaps lighten up with silver jewelry will be enough to bring this dress into spring and summer.

The dress is really cute and looks great on you! I think you can wear a sleeveless or short-sleeved red dress in summer, even with the black trim. I like cjh's idea to lighten it with silver. Do you have silver sandals?

You might also wear a lightweight little black jacket or wrap with it--perhaps something loosely-crocheted. Even with black sandals, the outfit would read "summer."

Ooh, red footwear could be fun, too...

Hmmmm- to take this dress into spring/summer how about ligtening it up with perforated shoes or accessories or open toe booties?

Nice dress! Would a blouse underneath work? Something with airy billowy sleeves could be nice for spring...

Oh good idea on the sandals. The major concern I have is that I'm sure our ac will be cranked here at work, and I'll have to have a topper of some kind. Just can't imagine anything but black with this... And then different color shoes?? Just not sure.

I think light blue would work well with red - perhaps light blue/black topper and light blue sandals?

Here's a pic without the cardigan, and one with it unbuttoned. Definitely don't like it unbuttoned!!

Interesting color suggestions,I would never think to put light blue with it. Maybe...

Are denim jackets formal enough for your workplace? Or a lightweight knit moto in a neutral color? I agree all the black and dark red does kinda read winter to me.

I think sans tights and with lighter shoes, maybe white or silver, it could work for the warmer months.

Love the idea of pairing light blue (and also some white) with this dress, and also Rachy's idea of popping a soft blouse underneath. Another vote for moto jackets, blazers, and denim jackets. I do like it with the cardi done up as you have. You could also try buttoning it all the way up so it looks like a sweater over a skirt.

You are getting some great suggestions here. Love the idea of a white or denim jacket - your workplace is pretty casual so that should be fine right (wiah I could) ? And no hose will lighten the whole look
