Recycling an Iron?

This is going to sound pretty silly, but does anyone know where I can take an old iron to be recycled? I've been searching for a few days and I can't seem to find where I can take it. Have any of you tried to recycle an iron?

Does your county have some kind of recycling center? When I had various old things that needed recycling, I contacted the county recycling center, and they told me where I could take the stuff.

If it works why not donate it to goodwill or some charity place - or a women's shelter? Just an idea.

Most irons have circuit boards, albeit small ones, these days, so I bet an electronics recycling place would take them. In my area there are local events every few months where a local store, Girl Scout troop, etc., will partner with an e-waste center and do a drive at a local parking lot where you can drop off stuff. I dropped off a non working Keurig coffee maker at the last one.

Local scrap yard usually they will pay you to scrap any kind of metal material.

Thanks Gigi, abc, Laura and ladywone! I'd donate it if I thought it could work again (safely), but it's beyond repair. I'll give my local recycling center a call.
