Recommendation on boot shapers?

I have a few pairs of tall boots that I am polishing in anticipation of Fall (I think it's still coming!). I used to have some boot shapers for them but they broke and I have just been using tissue paper.

The boot shapers I had were plastic on either side with springy metal bent to create tension in the middle. The metal broke free of the plastic and became a springy razor edge metal hazard.

Does anyone use boot shapers? Do you have a favorite brand or something you have created at home to keep your boots in shape?

I just use a piece of cardboard cut to fit each pair. I'd like to buy boot shapers eventually, but free is good too.

Do you have any pool "noodles"??!! I just saw a recommendation in Real Simple to cut them to fit your boots. I think its a great idea! Even if you have to buy them, they'd be much cheaper than the ones I've had. And they are probably on end of summer clearance!

The other suggestion I've read is to use rolled up magazines.

I got mine at the container store. I've also heard of using wine bottles.

Thanks Anna, Susie & Florence...Great ideas! I have tons of wine bottles, magazines, cardboard and I think even some pool noodles in the basement. I cannot help but smile after saying pool noodles This will help until I can buy some. Heck, maybe I won't need to buy any.

Pool noodles!

We've moved beyond noodles and use pool saddles to float in the lake!

Don't laugh...big soda bottles, when I can get them. The 2L, I think. We only have soda around on the 4th and at Christmas and I go around separating them out from the other recyclables.

I also use rolled up, thick magazines. And I LOVE the poodle noodle idea. I just read about that recently too.

Look at all those things you can do with pool noodles..funny. I had to google pool saddles!

Pool saddles are the best! We've had ours for at least 4 summers and so many people have bought some after trying ours!

I use the soda bottles too. You don't have to roll them every time you use them like you do with magazines.

I use magazines too. You can put a rubber band around them to hold the shape.

I read an online DYI tip about using inexpensive flexible plastic cutting boards. I went to Wally World and loaded up on them. They work great in my boots. I just roll them up and stick them inside, as you would do with a magazine.

I use cardboard egg cartons. Often boots come with cardboard inserts now, so I just reuse those if I need them. You could also used rolled up towels secured with string, masking tape or rubber bands. I only have one pair of tallish boots as i have hugely fat calves (18 inches) so I cannot find tall boots that fit. When you lucky skinny-calf folks lament about boots being too big, I think to myself "how can that possibly be?"

I'm about to cut up our pool noodles (I'll get new ones next spring) for this purpose. Wine bottles are too darn heavy, rolled up magazines go flat. Empty plastic water bottles do the trick too, but I like the pool noodle idea, so I'm going to give that a try.

I'm chiming in with pool noodle love! I was able to get 2 pair from each noodle, which makes it about a buck per shaper when bought at full price

Tried using magazines...seems to work! They sorta unroll a bit after you put them in and fill out the boot nicely. My old "W" magazines are best because they are much taller than a normal magazine.

Ruth- I like the plastic cutting board idea too.

This was a cute idea to cover the pool noodles with a sweater sleeve.
