Received the nicest compliment today!

I was riding up to my office in the elevator after lunch, and one of the (always very nicely turned-out) staff members looked me up and down, smiled a big smile, and said, "You really love clothes, don't you? I can tell!"

Made me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Anybody else had a nice compliment lately?

Very nice. I think sometimes when someone says a nice thing when they absolutely don't have to makes us smile all the more. The last sort of compliment I got was yet again a backhanded one. The tailor when I went to pick up a MK pencil skirt I had dropped off said he didn't recognize me because I looked so different. Well, I'd just come from swimming laps at the pool with a bright orange sundress coverup on, no makekup and drenched hair piled on my head. The first time I had hair and makeup done and a cute coordinated outfit with heels on. I can only assume he meant, geez you look really bad today compared to how pulled together you were yesterday. LOL.

I just gave a compliment. I went to the cleaners to pick up and drop off, and while the clerk had her back turned I noticed she had a pretty top on. It was shades of purple to almost a rust-pink, and when she turned around I saw it had a pretty draped neckline. She had shoulder-length curly red hair and I told her she looked outstanding. She was very pleased and said she just had her roots done and said I'd made her day with the compliment.

Driving home I wondered how she would have reacted if I had whipped out my phone and taken a picture and asked her if I could post it on YLF. Probably better I didn't.

I'm trying to pay more attention to what others are wearing.

Beside the fact that someone gave you a very kind compliment, it sounds as if you bring a bright spot to someone's day just because of the way you put yourself together. What a wonderful thing to give to the world !!!

It always catches me off guard to receive a compliment from out of the blue, but I am doing better at just smiling and saying a sincere "thank you!" (as opposed to some self-deprecating comment I used to make. . .)

What a lovely compliment, Mary K. I got one today too. I went to vote early and one of the poll workers told me that she just loved my outfit, that it was perfect for a fall day. I had on Lucky slight boot cut jeans, a dark brown knit top under a print cardi of dark brown, cream, tomato red, burnt orange and gold in a modern pattern of varied sized dots. Accessories were snakeskin pattern loafers, red orange bag with brown leather trim, gold hoops and several strands of Zulu grass beads in browns, creams, and golds.
Another rather unusual compliment I had last week was when my class was leaving and a 12 year old girl showed me a drawing and asked if I recognized myself. She'd liked my outfit and drew it down to the little square mother-of-pearl buttons on the blouse. I wasn't quite sure how to react since we both knew she was supposed to be doing other work, but felt flattered that she'd noticed.

AWW! How fabulous! Everyone else's stories, too.
I got two recently that make me smile even now. One was actually several weeks ago when a woman in my building held the door for me and said "I love your dress, you always look so good." Yesterday I ran into her again and she introduced herself as "the one who said I like your clothes."
And just yesterday, a stylish and gorgeous colleague said much the same thing, complementing first my specific outfit and then my overall fashion sensibilities. Absolutely made my day.

I adore reading a thread like this, I find it so incredibly uplifting! Mary K, every word that lady said is true.

My favourite compliment of the last 24 hours was not actually in relation to my appearance. I, however, like to think that it still counts because when I heard it I felt absolutely fabulous! It was my (sometimes rather difficult to get along with) Father in Law excitedly telling me last night over the phone that I'm the BEST Daughter in Law he has ever had! [Background - I managed to get him and my MIL last minute free tickets to go to a Bee-Gees concert last night. They both love the Bee-Gees and were so very excited to have the opportunity to go, hence his ultra enthusiasm - he actually rang me from the stadium after he picked up the tickets to say thank you again. :-)]

Of course, I am the ONLY daughter in law he has (and ever will!), but hey, a compliment from him is still something to treasure, right?!
