I debated sharing this, but this community has been hugely supportive and nice over the years. Y’all are an amazing bunch.
Anyways my father died five months ago, and it’s pretty tough for me.
The dress I searched for months ago was for his memorial service/celebration of life. Which turned out to be surprisingly good.
I known grief is a crappy roller coaster. Currently in depression-grief slug mode.
And I have a large to do list, get one thing checked off the list and three more pop up.
Here’s a favorite picture of us from a while ago

Oh, Anna, I am so sorry. You were such an amazing support and caregiver for your dad; I hope you are left with warm memories. Cold comfort while in the grips of grief, I realize. I wish you peace and strength in this difficult time.

Oh, Anna, such a sad time for you. Even when we know we are saying goodbye to a parent, the reality of death still hits us hard. I’m glad the memorial went well and that you felt comfortable sharing the news with this community. Take care of yourself as you work on that ToDo list.

Oh that's very sad Anna. You were a wonderful support to him in his latter years - and I am sure it has been very hard.

When my Mum died in 2019 I found the grief very inconsistent - sometimes I felt just fine, others very sad and alone.

Anna, I honestly think you must be one of the best daughters ever. You gave so much love, time, attention, care to your dad. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a huge, huge part of your life, especially in the last few years -- it must leave a massive hole.

What a gorgeous photo of the two of you. He had a rare spirit -- and you do, too.

Grief is strange, for sure. I still talk to my mother and hear her voice in my head, and she died in 2015.

I’m so sorry too Anna, you had talked about him before and were such a huge support to him. I miss my Dad still sometimes and he died in 2010!

I'm so sorry - I lost my father long ago ( lung cancer ) and still have trouble talking about it. Now I'm trying to imagine my kitty ( she left me this year ) sitting next to him and enjoying the evening together.

I know how hard and stressful this all is, and how there is an overwhelming amount of stuff to take of when a parent passes - and there is yourself to take care of too. It might not feel that way, but know that you are coping impressively well, and I'm proud of you. Give yourself all the time and care you need. Things will get better and easier. Anna, you have always been one of our more delightful and interesting contributors, with your street-infused style and refusal to give up comfort, practicality, or fabulousness - rather difficult to find all three but you do it!

I was deeply impressed when you packed up and moved to take care of your dad as it became harder for him to do it on his own because of dementia. That particularly cruel condition is always accompanied by many physical declines as well, and it must have been a tremendous relief to have his daughter the medical professional at his side.

Take your time and when you're ready to be back a little more - which I do hope will happen - we'll be here.

Grief has its own timetable and moods. When it starts to recede you will begin to find you remember the sweet moments with your dad, the funny ones, even the irritating or frustrating ones, because they are all a mosaic of your life together.
