Here is a long post that speaks to pros and cons of duplicating, settling vs. practicality, late-blooming love, and shoes!
I have (mostly) decided to semi-duplicate my Munro oxfords (another color and a half-size up!), to wear right now with dark tights and skirts mostly, but also with some pants.
It’s funny, because last year when I got the bronze pair, I had ordered both colors and sent the burgundy back as too dark ,and also not wanting both the same. This was when I was thinking mostly sheer or sheer tinted hose and they looked so stark on my legs and was not thinking of the opaque tights much. Also—I’ll say it—I think the Munro’s can read a bit sedate, and thought I’d find tons of others to choose from once I started looking.
Because my wardrobe bottoms run much more to black/gray, and especially the newer skirts, I have since tried loads of oxfords trying to get just the right version of some kind of gray or combo of gray, black or white, or maybe metallic if not too flashy, or a burgundy, and nothing has worked. Shoe boxes flying back and forth in the mail. I had an idea of slightly more cheeky but dressy oxford than the Munro that I would like, found some “almost’s”, but haven’t found any keepers in the right colors and comfort or fit.
I have my black patent brogues which I’ve worn some with skirts, but I’ve found that with skirts I really prefer a slightly more slim or refined shape since I’m in size 8.5-9—the brogue can look kind of Minnie Mouse on me. But I can’t really do a pointy-toe, can’t do much heel.
When I re-ordered these and tried them with my skirts, the outfits are really happy and confident-feeling to me--go Team Wear. Like, why did I think these would not work, last year? The comfort level is better than the VC slipper loafer, and they don’t make any noise. It has more interest than a plain black shoe, but is tonal with basic black tights, or charcoal or gray and just completes the outfit, so it just feels right for me. So I think that is true love, (but maybe delayed, like when you realize your college pal is your soulmate) and not just settling, even though ideally I would have found a different style, for more variety.
The scenario is less rosy if these are only one-year shoes—pricey and no sale price. Two years would be excellent, but they (or I) might be so over next year, this deep into the oxford trend. Or is that the price of happiness and part of my wardrobe budget allocation plan, so that I will just cut back elsewhere?

What do you think? Have you looked and looked, only to end up in the same place? Did that turn out to be a mistake?
